Cheapest source for track cogs?
My local shops all have to order me track cogs, and they want $40+ CAD for just one. I'm wondering what the cheapest online source is.
I want to build a proper fixed wheel this time around rather then just welding like I did with my Nishiki. |
Where are you? Most of the shops around here want about $25-$30 for a dura ace NJS cog 1/8 or 3/32, iro or cheaper stamepd cogs are close < $20 CDN.

Kelowna B.C.
Every shop I've been to they need to special order them, nobody in this town even knows/cares about fixed. |
You could order through Harris or Ben's Bikes. I would not buy the cheapest cog you can find if you value your hub. Penny wise, pound foolish, as they say.

businesscycles.com (US)
Good selection, good prices. |
super cheap crappy cogs come up on ebay fairly often
|
Harris Cyclery has decent prices on lots of fixed gear (and otherwise hard to find) parts.

I need to rebuild my rear wheel because of this foolish mistake. |
no pressed steel cogs! bad idea. other than that, use whatever cog you find.
|
Ben's Cycle, the Milwaukee cogs are cheap and very nicely made.
|
If you come down to Van, I hear La Bicicletta (a high end roadie store on Broadway near MEC) has DA cogs for CAD $25.

the place is easy to find... and chances are people coming to town will pass near it. oh yeah - i know there is at least one other kid out there that rides fixed - his name is nick and he rides a sweet custom marioni frame. he comes down here and rides with us a bit. EDIT: his name is actually simon - oops |
f*ck going cheap. spend the $30 and buy an EAI cog; everyone i know, including myself, who has one loves it. i actually have 4 of them.
|
^+1. Buy through Ben's Cycle (just google it), it's really great..
why? wider thread area so you have less risk of stripping your hub, and they're CNC machined so they're very well made.. you can get them in black or silver, and despite the name, they're made in the USA (at least what it says on it). |

stay away from the cheapest cogs.
However, you can find some good deals in quality cogs... EAI, Surly, Soma, Shimano DA, Milwaukee, Phil Wood, IRO The best deal I know of right now are Soma cogs on ebay...somebodys been selling them for $19.99 with free shipping. I got one of those and its just as smooth as my EAI cogs. |

OP asked for cheapest not necessarily good

for suicide hub applications, i actually prefer the cheaper stamped thin base cogs- a thinner base allows more room to crank that bb lockring on tight and coat the whole mess with blue loctite.

you legs/bike do not generate the force necessary to break the bond of blue loctite. |
