Wheels.
hey guys sorry for being a nooB but i am looking to convert this sweek Peugo i got for free to a fixie and have been looking into wheels. I work at a lbs and have a chance to get a set of Bontrager track wheels for like $120 usd. They have the 22 spoke set up. I have been checking out pics of the fixies on here and everyone seems to be running the 32's. Any imput on why i should or shouldn's buy these wheels? Thanks guys. And, I have been told a mountain bike chain is stronger than a bmx/ single speed chain. Just thought i would throw that in there. Thanks guys and gals!

the bontranger are pretty sweet, but if you want somthing more durable, you could get a set of formulas laced to velocity aeroheads for I think 10 dollars more from either QBP or J&B or you could also get sun rims to formulas for like 85.

are you talking pre built?
|
why yes I am

BMX chains take a helluva lot more of a beating then MTB chains do.

No real point in putting ultra light low spoke wheels on a heavy conversion. You meant peugeot right?
|
haha ya sorry for my bad spelling. its peugeot. Not super familiar with that brand, any info on em like if they were the run of the mill frames from france or how they hold up quality wise would be cool if anyone knows.
|
peugeots are rad, but french parts are more annoying to replace in some circumstances, as I've found out. Depending on what era, it may be a gem or just run of the mill. Mines a u08, pretty general. Still, it's a sturdy bike. Px10's are cooler though, from what i know.

any way to know what model it is? just got it for free from a guy and forgot to ask questions haha
|
For $120 just buy em.

cool thanks guys for the input. i decided to go with the velocity's laced to arrowheads. I needed to go cheaper too cause i just found out i cant remove my large ch ring. they are like pressed together. kinda weird so im going to have to get a new crankset too. on that note, anyone know if the old peugeots have the normal euro threaded bb used today or the other kind. (sorry forgot the technical name)

thats what i figured, i ordered up a crank set from my lbs and i think they should work to make it into a fixie. i also had another opportunity come up today that i think i will jump on. its a bianchi frame. i would get it from a co worker in exchange for some of my stuff. the bianchi has standard bb and all that good stuff so i think i will make the peugot into a ss. i dunno maybe a suicide ss ahah. Oh and what do you mean getting the cotter outta the cranks would be a pain? Not sure what you mean by cotter
