Singlespeed & Fixed Gear "I still feel that variable gears are only for people over forty-five. Isn't it better to triumph by the strength of your muscles than by the artifice of a derailer? We are getting soft...As for me, give me a fixed gear!"-- Henri Desgrange (31 January 1865 - 16 August 1940)

BMX hubs for a fixie?

One of these days I would like to build myself a fixed gear bike and I have been watching track hubs of all kinds. It doesn't seem to matter what kind (Campy Record, Dura Ace, or Superbe Pro) they all seem to command huge prices on ebay. I have also watched BMX hubs. They seem to get good prices too but not nearly as much. Has any body heard of road fixed gear bikes being built with BMX hubs? Are the spacings the same as track hubs?

I originally posted on Classic and Vintage but was advised to post here. Thanks.

Would BMX hubs be ok for a single speed? I mean, is the spacing and all that such that it could be laced to a 700 or 27'?

If I am not mistaken most BMX hubs are spaced at 110 instead of 120 like most track hubs....

How about a front disc hub converted to a bolt-on fixed back ? I'm not sure what widths they come in..but those tend to be cheaper.
