Long Clips (clips + straps)
 

Looking to upgrade my pedals with something more comfortable. My clips seem to be too small for my shoes. I'm thinking of a whole new set. I generally have size 13/14 shoe.

Can anyone point me in the direction of some larger clips and pedals that would work with double straps or offer some opinions on them?

That's a big shoe...with trainers on you'll find it hard to find a clip big enough.

I wear sizes 12-13 and always found clips a pain in the a**. Went clipless and never looked back. Of course I never did try clips with some real cycling shoes, that would probably help, but with large tennies clips just don't work.

I was also considering going clipless AND in the event I can't find anything in clips+straps to suit me, I'll probably give it a go. What do you recommend in terms of clipless systems? Specifically what is the difference between a MTB and road clipless shoe?

Road clipless give you a bigger contact patch to the pedal and generally a larger surface area of contact between the cleat and the pedal. They are maximized to transfer energy into the pedal stroke and cut pressure spots/hot spots in your foot for long rides. However...they are a ***** to walk in due to the cleat designs.

MTB clipless is made for walking too (since sometimes you need to hike/bike on the trail) they are far easier to walk in...clip in and out of and have as good retention (in most cases) as road clipless (I'm sure some hardcores will disagree).

If you are going clipless for the first time...go for MTB shoes/cleats. Look at Shimano SPD systems or Crank Brothers Egg Beaters. Do a search on this forum for all the info....there is alot. Also over in the MTB, beginners and road forums too....

My shoe size is 14.
I have Mks sylvan pedals with LL clips (the largest size), and single strap.
that is fine.

I have size 12 feet and find my soma double gate toe clips to be too large. They would be a good bet., and may be cool and funky in conjunction with your double straps.

i always found metal clips hurt like **** on my toes. i got a pair of plastic ones and they're way more comfortable. if you haven't, i'd suggest you give it a try.

I agree. I'd also say that nylon clips are more durable imo.

i also have size 13 shoes and im riding clips. i have the cheap silver clips and single straps from nashbar. i dont find too much of a problem with them other than they leave a mark on the toes of your shoes. I dont ever see myself going clipless because i like being able to wear any shoes i want.

I have some cheapo plastic clips that I prefer to metal, functionally speaking. They're more comfy, and work just about as well. Only thing is... They don't look as sexy as metal clips. ;)
I wear a size 13 shoe, and have never had a problem.

Size 13 here. MKS LL clips work fine.
