Singlespeed & Fixed Gear "I still feel that variable gears are only for people over forty-five. Isn't it better to triumph by the strength of your muscles than by the artifice of a derailer? We are getting soft...As for me, give me a fixed gear!"-- Henri Desgrange (31 January 1865 - 16 August 1940)

Tasteful, beautiful.

Love that leather spray-flap - what a touch.

Thanks!

Steering is just fine. I have a long (130mm) stem to off-set the sweep back on the h-bars, this helps stabalize the front a bit....and the gearing is low (44x18). I doubt I'm ever going faster than 15mph on this bike.

the biggest challenge is parking the bike when loaded up! I'm going to invest in a twin-legged kick stand soon.

That's really nice. I've got an old Motobecane frame hanging in the garage I want to do something similar with.

I think I may have seen you riding, actually--were you in the Crescent Lake area yesterday?

Will do.

...xcept The budget has been cut for this because of recent lay-offs at work. I'm getting nervous and using leftover parts for now.

Out of curiousity,is it possible to set up a cassette type free hub with a single cog?

Oh yah, the frame is a Windsor/Acer-Mex

Yes. It actually works out well. Get a bunch of spacers and put the cog where you want for chain alignment. The cassettes are pinned together for ease of installation. If you take them apart, you have a bunch of different tooth-count cogs and spacers. Some have plastic spacers, I like the metal ones better. Obviously you will need more than 1 cassette to have enough spacers. Pretty much anything that fits over the spindle will work as a spacer. I have read about people using plastic drain pipe, but have never tried it.

Thanks Jeepr! Found a spacer kit at the LBS since I have no spare cassette parts.

Really loving the 180mm cranks.

beautiful! wish the seat lug was chromed though + bb lug

Your could also use the other cogs as spacers, depending on how many gears are on that particular cassette. I have been known to make PVC spacers, but I would NOT recommend this for long-term use. It should also be noted that I did this for a sh*tty paper route bike.
