New Custom 29er Singlespeed

1 Attachment(s)
Just got a new singlespeed 29er. Ridden a few fixies in the past but this is the first time of any duration on a singlespeed. The frame's made by Clark Custom Cycles, http://www.clarkcustomcycles.com

Really digin the singlespeed thing. I haven't found any times were I really "need" other gears yet and I've been riding it in the mtns around Salt Lake City.

Wow, that thing is awesome, very cool build. What is up with those kinds of forks? They look like they would have suspension but don't, or do they? I don't really understand the design, maybe just to hold huge tires?

mander 04-12-07 11:28 AM

Very nice! Just a tip though, the masses always demand drive side pics.

EDIT the masses are satisfied ... for now. Hominy HOMINY that is a great looking bike!

How tall are you and what is the standover on that?
I'm five-nine/ten and I just can't get used to the height of a 29er.
My friends that are six-two + rip it up on their 29ers.

AfterThisNap 04-12-07 11:30 AM

oh, and what is the name of that color? Is it powdercoat?

isotopesope 04-12-07 11:49 AM

that thing looks sweet. is it fillet brazed?

nice build up too. is that a carbon fork?

It's a suspension corrected fork with 80 mm offset.

38mm of offset, not 80mm.

And it rides great. http://dirtragmag.com/print/article....=stuff_reviews

Just looked that up, you learn something everyday. Probably something I should have known, riding mountain bikes for about 5 years, guess I always had suspension forks.

workscollective 04-12-07 01:55 PM

yeah, it's fillet brazed.

As to standover height etc...

Damien Clark, the framebuilder said that essentially the virtual top tube of the bike was at or just under the 29 inch line of the wheels. I'm 5.7 with about a 29.5-30 inch inseam. And I have not problems with anything regarding fit on this frame (Although I guess that's the benefit of custom stuff)

With the front fork, I think it was mentioned but it's an 80 mm suspension corrected fork. The carbon makes it light, and adds a bit of give to a rigid fork. And you could probably put the front tire for a Surly Pugsly in there, it's go not clearance issues whatsoever.

With regards to the color. We call it Anti-Freeze green. Need to find some sexier name but oh well.

And yeah, it's a powdercoat...nice and durable...

Yeah, it's got an eccentric. Makes the entire chain tension thing a breeze...

freebird 04-12-07 06:16 PM

My voodoo has sliding dropouts and they are pretty much a total pain in the ass.

D-Boy 04-12-07 06:34 PM

Bad Ass

Wow it is so nice to read nice things about my work! I am so happy that I got to deliver that bike @ 24 hours in the old pueblo and got to see it in action. Enjoy the ride and I dig all the photos.

piratelove 04-12-07 07:24 PM

I've never met someone on a trail who was worried about getting dirty. it's a pretty awesome feeling coming home covered head to toe in dirt and mud, says you had a good day.

dustinlikewhat 04-12-07 08:29 PM

that bike looks fun as hell.

what size tires are you running on those freedom discs? I have a set laced to a Halo Spin Doctor and a Hive Chub Hub, but i'm curious as to what width tire they will handle?

Cy Trivialities 08-19-09 03:31 AM

so jealous.
