Ride on the RIGHT
ok i have gotten into the ss way of things recently, but my roots are in the freeride mountain bike scene. anyways, with that said i usually dont pay much attention to what side of the road to ride on, and yesterday i was cruising down the street by my house into on comming traffic direction. (wrong side?) and i came upon a side street that is usually pretty busy and it was busy today too. I slowed down to be cautious and came to the determination that both cars comming out of the street onto my street saw me. i continued to pedal my way through the intersection and the guy in an old beater honda decides only to look one way then accelerate. i was already half past his car and he plowed into my leg/ left crank arm. I felt really dumb and was late for work so i stood up, told him to open his eyes, but didnt grill him cause it was partially my fault. I later realized i should of gotten his info cause if was injured any worse than i was it would be good to have his info. but i got a free crank arm later that day so i wasnt stressed. anyways my eyes were opened to how easy it is to get hit and to keep in mind the rules of the road.
Well there you have it, my first bike/car collision. |
partially your fault? 100% your fault IMO
|
all the way your fault - glad you're ok - travel with traffic bro
|
how did you get a free crank arm
? |
Going against traffic is for suckers and jerks. I'm also glad you're ok, but good god...please take a lesson with you from this. It's not only dangerous for you, but also for your fellow cyclists.
|
Why would you ride against the traffic? He'd be let go, you'd be ticketed, if you reported it.

I finished a long ride and decided to go to the store (in my car), for some liquid refreshment. I had to make a left turn into the store parking lot, on a road with quite a bit of traffic. I waited, with my signal, saw a hole and started to turn. Out of the corner of my eye, I see a bike heading into my path from behind. Yea, it's some dumbass riding his bike down the wrong side of the street. I almost hit him, had to slam on my brakes. NOBODY left turning is looking for traffic coming from the wrong direction! Pissed me off, because I ride tons, and people that ride like idiots give all riders a bad name. Glad you weren't hurt. get your head out of your ass.

this is why traffic moves on the right. move with the traffic, not against it.
and never trust dumbass drivers to not kill you. |
ya dumb lesson to learn. and ya the harsh names probably werent aproariate. Thanks anyways guys
|
I can't say that I never go the wrong way, I cut up a lot of one way streets and such. But when i do, I never expect anything from cars and always ride as if they don't see me, because I'm the one breaking the rules, not them.
Only time I've ever been in an accident is when I was riding with traffic, following all the rules. Just ride like your invisible and don't play chicken w/ an auto, you won't win. |

and ya the harsh names probably werent aproariate. You might not like them, but they are appropriate. |

You might not like them, but they are appropriate. What's with describing the honda as an old beater .. are you implying b/c it was some crappy car it must be driven by some poor uneducated person that is below you? Glad you're ok but you're 100% at fault. If I was the driver, I would've taken your information down to get the tiny scratch off the car bumper fixed at your cost.. |
I still haven't found a state where it is legal to ride on the sidewalk or against traffic good luck good thing you weren't hurt and follow the rules they are there for a reason

I disagree that the harsh words were called for.
There are ways to tell the OP that he was in the wrong without the names. What does calling him a "sucker" or saying he has his head in his ass accomplish? Yeah, he gave that driver a bad impression of cyclists, but we have all done that at one point or another. What's done is done and now he knows better. |
br995 rides on the left side of the road too. i saw him do it the other day. http://www.vwvortex.com/vwbb/rolleyes.gif
wait..nevermind. |

i cant believe someone went as far as to criticize my description of the car. Ok it was my bad and i see that now. i havent started commuting to work until recently and dont have the rules of biking set in stone in my head. I would of crossed the road earlier but in this circumstance iwas in a hurry to work and was trying to save time, so i didnt wait on the side of the road till it was clear. i was going to cross at the next opportune time. I live and learn.
