any singlespeed conversion clues on this old roadie
I have seen this old raod bike on ebay and am thinking of using it to try my first single speed:
http://cgi.ebay.com.au/ws/eBayISAPI....link:middle:au Some nice people on this site have helped me already - I know I need an eno rear hub to get chain tension right. Can someone spare some time to tell me what other things I might need to do. eg would I need to get a new rear rim, do I need a special BB? I want to keep this first effort cheap if possible. Thanks, Cal. |

You don't need an eno hub for that frame. It has short horizontal drop outs, which allow for enough adjustment of the wheel.

This bike fits in between imo, lugged cro-mo (Tange 5, whatever that is) and forged(?) dropouts.

Thanks for the feedback on Apollo - there is no point spending the cash on a crap old frame if its always gonna be a crap old frame. I would rather spend more and get a decent old frame. I will keep searching.

I always see rad older track/path frames on ebay.au from time to time. I would keep checking. They seems to sell for around $100 AUD.

^^The Tang 5 decal says "Cr-mo tubing." It may be straight gauge, but it isn't hi-tensile, gas pipe crap. And I also see forged dropouts.

I grew up in Melbourne but never paid any attention to Appollo bikes b4 - strangely I saw an appollo "mountain bike" last night - the jjoins on the frame looked shifty as. Thanks for all the info I have a much better idea of what I am looking out for now. Cal.
