Yeah, I'm leaning to the 165's. Hope to get them powdercoated neon yellow along with the seatpost and bars. Maybe this graphic incorporated on it somewhere as well...

I'll see you around I'm sure.

yeah, it's a 57. I got it on ebay for $34 and it came with that threadless spicer fork.

Your black frame looks awesome. looking forward to seeing it complete!

After reading this, I'm totally going to get an 80's curved seat tube, sloping top tube, 700c rear and 24" front wheel TT bike (ideally in metallic sparkle purple) and put a banana seat and ape hangers on it. Just you see if I don't. Ahem.

one thing i love more than the steel khs frames are the aluminum ones. i've been trying to find one in a 57 FOREVER, but the damned things never pop up on ebay/cl. i guess you can attribute that to satisfied customers, huh?

Why is trying to see who can ride their bike faster around a track a more worthwhile pursuit than commuting, riding to bars and popping wheelies?

I'm not sure anyones saying it is. What Dutret is saying, in his inimitable and charming style, is that pursuit bikes are almost designed not to work well on the street (they really don't turn well, for instance), and that it might be a silly idea to ride one for commuting, just because it looks good. If you pay close attention, that pretty much covers 90% of what Dutret says. We might want to make a sticky "Dutret says you're an ass", and leave it at that.

One actually takes dedication, skill, and strength versus, well, "lookin hot".

Yeah, I guess I am mostly responding to the people who say that the hipsters are raising the price of second hand aero wheels, etc thus preventing amateur racers from getting their much needed equipment. Why is this such an injustice? I don't see how shaving a fraction of a second off of a flying 200M time is more important/useful/worthwhle than trackosaurus.

Yes but there is no style involved in track racing.

Because it's one way traffic. It's not like the racers can say "what the hell", and just use a set of quando hubs and whatever rim they have to hand. It's not that it's really an injustice in an objective sense, but you can imagine that as a racer, if stuff you needed suddenly jumped to three times it's previous price because someone wanted to look cool at the bar, it might piss you off a trifle.

I think the other point on this thread is that a downward sloping toptube does not equal a pursuit bike. A pursuit bike is designed for a pursuit race and so is quite like a TT bike. In the 80s bothe pursuit bikes and TT bikes had 650 front wheels and sloping toptubes. Now neither of them do.

Plus the KHS frame everyone is talking about has an insanely tight geometry that is quite far removed from pursuit geometry.

Sure, I understand how people might be annoyed at having to pay more money for equipment. Sure it is fun, takes lots of skill and dedication. I just don't agree that anybody "needs" to race bicycles or do barspins with their 650 HED wheel.

I agree with this. I also think the bike in question looks like fun.

I should point out that I don't care either way. I've owned a TT funny bike, and I was 60% serious about building up such a frame with a banana seat and apehangers. I don't buy track stuff for riding on the street, but mostly because I'm also priced out of the market. I do have a track bike that's far nicer than most, but it's lugged steel, and would be considered to old fashioned to be competitive by real racers. Just to add to the fun factor, I've added pics of both the TT bike and the trackie below. Yay me!

Because looking cool by showing off how rich you are makes you a boring jackass in my book. Being a fast impresses me although you still could be a jackass. Either way when one use of something results is functional and the other is purely based on fad chasing and conspicuous consumption the former use is more justified and

I'm not even saying that about pursuit frames though nor am I saying they suck to ride on the street. What is sought after isn't modern pursuit frames it's ancient relics good for nothing else besides looking different. If the price gets inflated on them I could care less. Further anyone too thick to realize that a pursuit frame is not going to ride well deserves what they get.

What I am saying is that everything with either a sloping tt is not a pursuit bike. Plenty of bikes have them that are not pursuit bikes(like the khs) and not many new pursuit bikes would because it is now known to be a flawed design(ST extending above the tt is a better one). Thanks to hipsters however everything that even remotely resembles an 80's pursuit frame is labled as one.

But if this ISN'T a pursuit frame, then what's his point other than being a MARK

That you should not call it one nor should the person who sold it to you.
