How did I end up with a 62mm chainline?!?!

This is so bizzare. I finished a singlespeed MTB project using a Shimano Deore FC M-510 crankset with UN 53 BB (68 x 118) and I end up with a 62mm chainline on the outer ring. How in the world did that happen?! I used the recommended BB length for a 52mm chainline, but I ended up with a 62mm. I measured this over and over. It is correct, but I just don't know what happened here. Anyone ever gotten a big error on the front chainline like this ever???

was the bb length that you used specified for that particular crankset? getting the right bb length depends on the crankset. not to be too obvious, but i've seen places where people try to universalize bb length/chainline combos.

I would guess that you need a 113mm BB instead of the 118 but that still wouldn't bring it down to 52 assuming that you measured everything correctly

118 is looooong.
You do realize that "chainline" for triples is the chainline of the middle ring (for doubles: halfway between the big and the small), right?

I think moving the chainring in would be your best bet. Using a shorter BB on standard mtb cranks might create clearance issues.
