Hey mom, look! I made a fixie!

So ya....been riding a Lemond road bike for a while, and I'm seriously addicted to being on a bike...and what's the best treatment for a coke head? Get 'em hooked on straight up black-tar heroin! Seeing as I couldn't find a good source for any black-tar in the area (and I'm not really THAT addicted to coke), I built a fixie instead....a super cheap fixie. This thing cost me less than $200.

Also, I'm a tard, so if stuff is just flat-out wrong, do tell....

It's a fixed/fixed rear hub, 16 and 17t, 44t chainring...

And after having put about 20 miles on it, I got a front brake...the lever is old-as-dirt, and didn't have a good spot to sit the brake cable housing, so there's just a washer there...best way to do this "right"? New break lever?

Time to strip it, sand it, and rattle-can the shiz out of it, ya?

Dude wait....are my toe clips on the wrong side of the pedals? That is....should the strap be over the back side of the pedal, not the leading edge?

Weird short clips, and I think your clip is upside down on at least one pedal

The clips are plastic pieces of junk...I'm sure I'll break 'em soon.

And yeah, I know they LOOK upside down in the pictures, but that's the beauty of pedals...I can spin them around, pretty much whenever I want, so that the clips are on the top again...I think it's some kind of new technology. My LBS dude mentioned "bear rings" whatever those are. I'm not sure what Grizzlies and Kodiaks and the like have to do with my fixie, but they sure make my pedals work nice!

No but seriously....really? The hole for the strap is only on one side of the pedal...and if the straps go over the front part of the pedal, then the pedal labeled "L" should go on the right? Or wait...you talking about the actual metal buckle part?

no...what he's saying is you have one sided pedal and you mounted the clip on the wrong side of the pedal.

It seems like the clips/straps are on your pedals upside down and backwards and the pedals are on the wrong sides of the cranks too. So you got it perfect for backwards day. Uh hehe..

uh....the pedals are labeled R and L...so I put my right foot on the R pedal and my left on the L pedal, right? Also, the holes through the pedal for the straps are only on one edge, and that edge should be leading, right? So...where'd I go wrong?

What's the "right" way to set that brake up? And no aero routing for the lever...way to freakin' old.

And doc....why wouldn't I want to paint that?

the pedals are "upside down" IE: the cage part should be under your foot and the way they are it pedal axle is more under your foot while this works it will be infinitely more comfy if you switch it.
the brake is ok but maybe go to a shop and see if they have the correct fitting for the cable end to make it more secure
Personally, I wouldn't paint it Miyata are cool old Japanese bikes and the color looks kinda retro-cool but hey, it's YOUR bike do it however you want

it looks like the cages on the pedals are wrong. look at the catch piece, when your foot is in the nylon clip that catch piece will be jabbing the bottom of your foot.

from the looks of it your chainring is swaged (i.e. mashed) onto the crankarm. It could pop out of place under backwards pressure, so make sure your brake is in good working order.

How did you even managed to get those pedals on
backwards? Isn't that basically impossible without
totally stripping out your cranks?
