*yeowch!* pedal strike on achilles tendon!

So Im riding back to my apartment. I am nearing the bike racks. I lean into a controlled skid and lock my legs. I'm skidding, oh no im drifting to one side into the bushes! I try to drift to other side! Too late I'm about to skid into bushes! I bail, taking one foot off the pedals to touch the ground to slow down. My bent leg goes off the pedals and BAM! the pedal hits me squarely on the back of my heel right where the achilles tendon connects to the calcaneous. I fall down into the bushes with my bike. The pain is horrible. I think my heel is scraped and bleeding, but I peel away my sock to see the skin purple with an imprint of the side of the pedal, and starting to swell badly. And I can barely walk my bike to the racks. I'm limping, up the stairs to my apartment.

Its 3 hours later and i've taken a hot shower and it still hurts! I can't even hop up and down without the pain shooting up my spine from the bruise on my heel. And my calf muscle is extremely tight, and stretching doesn't help because it just pulls the tendon from in the swollen area in my heel tighter.

I really hope I didn't tear my tendon. Impact to the achilles tendon doesn't tear it right? Esp if its only a bike pedal. I was hoping to trick this weekend with my friend and I have capoeira class tomorrow. This isn't going to be good.

Take 3 Aleve, ice and elevate it, stay off it, and go to the doctor or not the next day depending on how it feels. I've done myself injury like that before (not in the same way but the same injury) and it was hell for the first 12 hours but a lot better after that. But, if you've got the insurance and there's any real question as to whether or not it's really actually serious, just go to the doctor.

lay on your stomach, with your legs outstretched but relaxed. have a friend squeeze your calf on the leg that's hurt. if your foot moves up and down, your achilles isn't ruptured. if your foot stays relaxed, go get looked at asap.

Thanks for the test, i'll remember it
and ya the foot moves thank goodness.
I think its just a bad bruise and swelling, no tearing. It was a ***** tho because when i went to look at my bike this morning, the front tire was flat. Therefore I must have blew it when I crashed, or it blew out causing me to crash. I just never noticed last night because i was in so much pain.

And even worse when i came home today, my mess bag caught a chair in the living room and dropped it on my injured heel. OWWWW!

The thread topic made me cringe. OW dude. Last week the New Jersey Gov.'s broken femur poking through his thigh had me think "OWWWWW!" This week, it's the achilles tendon pedal slap. I heard if you tear it, it's supposedly one of the worst pains a human can feel. I think a broken femur through the hamstring is worse though.

That's just one of the many reasons why FG bikes are a bad idea.

You're kidding, right?

Oh wait, I forgot that logic never applies here.
