Did you receive a little present from a concerned citizen recently? He or she may have wanted to remind you that your choice to block a bike lane was unsafe and probably illegal. Parking in, double parking in, or otherwise blocking a designated bicycle passageway forces cyclists (and others using this lane) to ride into the street, possibly blocking traffic and placing the cyclist in harm's way.

Think: car moving at 45 mph and bike moving at 10 mph. What fun! Bike lanes are there for a reason. Please be respectful in the future.

Ride/drive/walk safe.

similar idea, stickers are more obnoxious but not as bicycling related

This is amazing! We have pieces of paper in Atlanta to stick on windshields, but stickers are so much better--and slightly more permanent (grin).

Yeah, they've been around for a while [the stickers] - over 3 years....

Most the shops listed on the site carry full stocks. Spread the word and maybe the cops will start penalizing drivers more!

This is a great idea. I wish they were available in Philly.

Use stickers with caution. Could invite retaliation from an angry driver in a moving vehicle.

Well, since Philly is only 99 miles away, we may be able to work something out. Shops need to contact IPIABL to get stocks and shipping arrangements can be made. Requests have come in from Aus and EU as well....

The beauty of this system is that while they're parked in the lane, a small tap is all that's required to place a sticker. The drivers usually assume you nicked their car as you passed by... moving vehicles are another story!

They are. You can ask the folks to mail you some. Free.

Batson 04-25-07 01:48 PM

I like this much better than adjusting their mirrors, slapping a sticker on the trunk is much more covert.

Shiznaz 04-25-07 02:00 PM

I usually cleanse esophagus on their back window anyways

dueL_ 04-25-07 02:09 PM

if all cyclists obeyed traffic laws, these would be valid.

but since that isn't true (and I'm one of these cyclists), then these sticker campaigns carry no weight.

filtersweep 04-25-07 02:21 PM

You call the advocacy? You think people parking in bike lanes really care what you think? It reeks of self-righteousness more than anything. People defend their right to blow stopsigns and run red lights around here---- then turn around with this Dudley-Do-Right crap? I really don't get it.

Jonny Pockets 04-25-07 02:40 PM

I keep things even by driving just as poorly as I bike.

goldener 04-25-07 02:44 PM

i thought bike lanes suck?

johnprolly 04-25-07 02:50 PM

They wouldn't suck so much if they were used for biking. I personally ride in between cars - but when I'm riding with my girl, I'll use the bike lanes.

Word. My girl doesn't ride as agressively as me, or as fast usually, and I don't necesarily want her doing the stupid **** I tend to do when I'm by myself, and even if she's capable, one person having a close call with a car would often mean the person following either gets hit, or has to stop.

Common feeling among advocates of anything, but, the truth is you do not have to be a holy pure virgin in order to advocate for what you think is right.
