pain in achilles tendon....fixed related?

ay yo. some background on the situation:

#1 ive taken on ambidextrous riding as of late. non lead foot track stands, skips, etc. "goofy foot" for you ex skaters.

#2 its that time of year again where being on my feet for 12-17 hours a day makes funny things happen. funny things being swollen feet(yup) and swollen/sore knees. its finals time.

i guess what im trying to figure out is if the pain in the achilles tendon is from the newer riding style. is this a freak thing? i cant not walk or be on my feet, i need to wrap up the end of the year. im going to start icing the area but anyother thoughts, suggestions, sh*t talking will be thoroughly appreciated.

I think that bikers often forget the stress that they are actually putting on their bodies, especially when you're riding fixed. We just jump on our bikes and go, smiling the whole time, until we get home change out of the sweaty rags, lay down, wake up the next morning feeling like we tore every tendon we have in our bodies. If you are going to be out riding, trackstanding, you know practicing skills, warm your body up, and do some stretches, lower back, achilles, calves, quads, neck, triceps, etc, all of those things that typically ache the next day. It seems now, that the damage is already done so stay off it and ice and next time you're out, respect the activity and warm up, stretch, ride, cool down, stretch, beer

I have had achilles trouble a couple of times on long hilly Audax rides, it tends to be from ankling too much as I pedal coupled with spinning downhill and cramping up, get some ultrasound treatment at your docs and take anti-immflammatories if you are ok on them.

If you're using clips&straps make sure your foot is getting in all the way, especially if you have swelling.
Legs are seldom the same length, and if you've starting transferring more work from one leg to the other, your goofy foot might not like your seat height... maybe a tad lower/higher?

If you've got pain in the knees your leg may be auto-adjusting by putting more energy into ankle action to compensate... don't ride injured.

Stretch dude. Add it to your routine. Especially your achilles & your knees.

These are just lousy unqualified internet ramblings. Take'em or leave'em.

I had this problem and switched to clipless. The hard reinforced sole of the clipless shoes seemed to help reduce the strain on the achilles.
