Recommend me a drivetrain (Italian Fixed)

So I have an 90's Concorde/Ciocc frame - 130mm dropouts that I was going to give some gears but I've fallen for the fixed life... again. I have some Campy Record 10speed cranks (172.5mm 39-53) and a Chorus 102mm Italian Bottom Bracket. Can I use these when going with the fixed setup? Could someone recommend me a rear flip/flop fixed setup to go with this? Thanks in advance!

There is a NOS Gipiemme 165mm crankset with BB on Ebay right now.

You could throw on a Paul track hub with a 1/8th cog. Make sure it is 1/8th though and not 3/32 if you go with the Gipiemme pista crankset.

estratton 04-29-07 08:32 PM

Just stay away from all the SR stuff, cause I need it ;)

j/k, but yeah, lol.

k3nho 04-29-07 08:44 PM

yes, you can use the chorus BB. i would recommend getting different cranks, since 172.5 is sorta long on a conversion (pedal strike and the like). i've used 165, 167.5, and 170 w/o problems, but over that might be risky. why not get some campy strada road doubles for cheap (cheaper than their pista cranks)?

as for flip/flops, i think all campy hubs are single sided fixed, but i could be wrong. . .

mixtery 04-29-07 08:58 PM

thanks k3nho, I'll sell the cranks back to ebay heh.... good to know I can still use the BB. I'll look for some campy Strada's thanks! Now, how about a wheelset? anyone?

Get a proper track bike.

and keep your gears

and enjoy both equally.

Ciocc/Concorde/Paganini are my favourite Eye-talian rides.

ride safe.

your bikes are sex!
sweet styling on both.
Can you give me a parts list on these in case I change my mind on the conversion?

Thanks!

what does the rear cog have to do with the front chainring.. ??

DoshKel 04-30-07 11:36 AM

I'm just talking about the joy of matching up widths. Yea you can run 1/8 chain on 3/32 cog, but why when he has to buy the stuff anyway?

Oh I see. makes sense

man that concorde road bike looks so awesome...i want a road bike with that geometry...

mrwhite 04-30-07 03:54 PM

The Concorde ROAD bike is strangely sharper than the track version I have. Equal toe overlap on the road than track.

Track:
Frame currently getting repaired and then resprayed
Running full c-record era pista gruppo
Cranks, headset, pedals, hubs, atlanta 96's

Road:
C-record cranks, post, headset, 8 speed mechs, ergopowers, brakes, hubs. Bit of a bitzer, but not as much as my current road project.

yeah, that blue concorde is a tight road road bike.

i'm piecing together a road bike and i'm hoping to have it handle similarl to my track bike...but with gears...oh the joy it will bring me if i succeed.

Miche hubs are good, cheapish and tough. I don't dig their splined carrier cog system, though. If you're going to ebay your cranks, you may as well get a Miche crankset and bb while you're at it. The BB is adjustable on both sides (a la Phil Wood), so you can fine tune your chainline, within reason.

And don't let on that I told you this, but conversions are great. If you enjoy riding the conversion, odds are you'll either get a track frame sometime in the next 6 months, or be perfectly happy with your bike as is.

Mr White - nice rides, as per usual. Concordes are great.

Just thought I'd make use of the opportunity to post what I picked up yesterday:

Mr. White, my girlfriend strongly considered emptying her checking account on an identical (though smaller) Colnago frame.

Nice Rossin. Always liked the ones I've seen.

um, like my The Boss's MASTER. For a moment, I wished i was 5'5".

It's easy to do - the blood rush stops rational thought.

you can see the love for the master in her smile.

Goddamn, life would be so much easier if you only ever wanted to spend money on one kind of bike. I'm in the middle of one build but can't stop planning the next, and also kicking myself for not asking a random guy if he'd sell me his Colnago roadie that he was just using as a kick-about bike.

ok people I need your opinions. I have the following frame and following parts. I might lose a bit of cash going back to the track conversion so maybe I should stick with my original plan of the geared alloy buildup, damn does that mean I have to move this to another forum?
all alloy of course....

my parts:
Campy Record 10sp cranks
Chorus BB 102mm Italian
Centaur FD Braze on
Chorus RD 10sp
centaur seatpost
selle seat
cinelli stem

Give me a wheelset with silver hubs, rims, 32 spokes, under $400. What can you recommend?

mrwhite 05-01-07 08:24 PM

Gear up.

I've got a set of 20h 8 speed scirroco's.

Just got rid of some 12 spoke shamals...:(

PM me.
