Yeah man, stick it to them cars, despite the fact that the vast majority of pollution and waste is coming from coal plants, China, and third world nations.

not when a lot of those mobile sources are transportation infrastructure, which probably isn't going to embrace cycling or alternative energy sources (except, possibly biodiesel in some cases) anytime soon. passenger cars are actually pretty low on the list of consumers of petroleum fuels.

aside from the obvious air pollution, personal vehicles occupy an extremely large amount of urban space, which is dirrectly correlated to quality of life. among other things, including material consumption, like rubber tires. they are too costly to recycle and can create very toxic situations. instead of saying more, i would just recommend reading "asphalt nation" by jane holtz kay, and to keep an objective mind.

I agree with the idea that there should be practically no cars within major metropolitan areas (such as the ones that most of you seem to live in).

However, when I go to New Hampshire to climb some mountains and swim in some lakes, having a car is nice.

I drove CONSTANTLY back in Montana. I had to, it get's friggin cold for one. There's NO public transportation in the town I lived in, and it's spread out. And chances are, if you went to a buddy's house, he lived 20+ miles away out in the middle of nowhere.

Now I'm in California and really don't understand why people drive. ESPECIALLY in the bay area. BART is so rad. And biking is radder.

Hints at a much bigger issue. Capitalism is parasitic for profit as an end. Try to work around, via stickers or rocket launchers at family sedans, and you'll fail.

- habitations too spread out


Think about both, long and hard. As a bouns, think about whether it's the same in other parts of the world, does it necessarily have to be so, and is it sustainable in the long run.
