Adding Sidewalls After Wheel is Built?
Im about to order a wheelset
http://shop.greatdealsonbikes.com/me...tegory_Code=TR and since I'm gonna be a good little boy and get a front handbrake (im a newbie fix gear rider/builder) I was wondering if anyone knows if these are machined rims? Eitherway is it possible to get a LBS to install sidewalls after I get them, or is it impossible to put sidewalls into a wheelset without totally dismanteling the entire wheel, spokes and all? |

you know mugatu, I want to kiss you right now. Would that be inappropriate?

I've got that wheelset in black. Probably one of the most popular wheelsets out there, actually.

install sidewalls?
WTF? |
yeah..
what exactly is a sidewall, as you are referring to it ? |
I think he doesn't realize that "machined sidewalls" are simply the sides of the aluminum rim grinded down flat. Which the CXP-22 already has.

UB CONTROL - Usiné Brut What is it ? The braking surfaces are milled to improve braking efficiency Benefits : * Perfectly parallel braking surfaces * Brake pads in direct contact with the aluminum * No shuddering when braking Process : After assembly and anodization, the sidewalls of the rim are milled with a diamond point on a digitally controlled machine. The CD rims are milled, and then coated with a Hard Coat, since the Hard Coat prevents milling of the sidewalls. Although it is milled, a CD rim is not really UB Control /sob |
OP FYI:
Machined Rims - Rims that have had the sidewalls ground down flat for better braking. Paint or anodizing will be ground off, and the surface made flat as possible to provide better contact between the brake pad and the rim. Non-Machined Rims - Rims with the sidewalls kept in their raw condition. If the rims are painted or anodized the sidewalls will have it as well. These rims are not as good for rim brakes, but it doesn't matter if you are riding with disc brakes or brake less. |
