Help me find a 1" Threadless stem.

Can anyone guide me in the right direction for a cheap 1" threadless stem ? ... having a hard time finding one..

pedex 05-11-07 06:12 PM

I think these days you normally have to use an 1 1/8 with a shim

Kerplunk 05-11-07 06:12 PM

A 1 1/8 with a shim will probably provide you with more options.

beat me to the punch!

I just searched 3 online stores and only aebike.com has any, and they are very short 90 degree BMX style

subsistbmx@hotm 05-11-07 06:20 PM

yeah, but I heard using a shim is kinda sketchy. I have about a week or two until my build is complete so I got time to search.

zerobug 05-11-07 06:20 PM

Not sketchy at all if you torque everything correctly which is good for any stem.

BoozyMcliverRot 05-11-07 08:26 PM

i have a shim in my bontrager stem and im 1 inch threadless, been working fine for months now.

try a Salsa stem,i think they build custom lenghts and rise also. could be wrong though. they did back when i was working at the shop.

Does anyone know if a 1-1/8 inch stem cap will work on a 1 inch threadless? I have the 1" stem cap and I can still see the shim. Safety wise it doesn't bother me, but asthetically it does.

I've got a 1" threadless set up with a Thomson stem (1 1/8) with the Thomson shim, and the directions specifically said to use a 1 1/8" top cap, even though it's a 1" headset. Looks better. and apparently is the right thing too.

Alright, thanks. I figured a 1-1/8 cap would work since the 1 inch one isn't a snug fit.

Check Ebay for a Kelly stem. Someone was blowing them out a while back and I grabbed one.

octico 05-11-07 09:58 PM

If you want I can mail you the extra one I have at no charge. Its 1 and 1/8 just PM your info and I will mail it out tomrrow.

Not made anymore, live with the shim. Which reminds me,I think I'll go get a peanutbutter and jelly sandwich without the bread, it may not exist but I want one anyway.

BuddyMike 05-11-07 10:12 PM

^^^Stick with the shim, so you can have more choices with stems.

No need to mail one to me. They aren't that expensive.

cinelli alters go for cheap on ebay.
