The site does say 'photos from before they were shipped', which probably means the framebuilder or painter took the photos. Which may mean they were under shop lighting and/or taken with a crappy camera— possibly explaining the odd colour situation.

In other news, if that blue frame is a 50, I might need a 53. Trades?

joshuastar 05-30-07 04:38 PM

i don't know...the green looks right on...which makes me think the blue looks different than we thought...but i'll still like it, though.

and for the record, those top two pictures are definitely unpainted frames.

that blue is not anything like the blue tony sent out at first so... that makes me think that it is just the lighting

The green and unpainted ones look like they were taken on a wooden surface (matte) whereas the blue was taken on the floor (glossy), that could explain the odd tint. Probably also a cheap camera. I'm also stoked to know that if I get sick of the green, there's a pretty damn nice color underneath the paint.

Oh, and I'm using the Miche group on it, so silver components for me. I don't know, black components on a BRG frame just look like trying to hard to me, I'll take steazy.

schwinn 05-30-07 07:05 PM

I agree, for green, I'd go silver...probley silver with white accents. For the blue, I'd do black.

I'm powdercoating my frameset, so Ill have some decisions of my own......muahhahahaaha:D

That's how I'm leaning. I delivered newspapers on a green 3-speed Schwinn Typhoon back in, well, a long freakin' time ago, and my first "10-speed" was a green Raleigh Gran Prix. A green IRO with silver components would be something of an homage to those two old friends.

+1 to the idea about those photos being taken with bad light, crappy camera, etc. I wouldn't panic just yet if I had ordered blue.

red deep v's, black formulas, dt swiss. Gotta get them built.

doofo 05-30-07 11:27 PM

I'm not super hellbent on made in USA zealotry... but I'm sure glad as hell my new bike was made in brooklyn. I called in, swung by the shop to see the frame being made , chose a color, and it's at the powdercoater right now.

Yes, my frame is four times the cost of the group buy IRO, but I didn't have to wait several months just to get my frame stateside.

This has been a sticky point for me as well. I ordered under the impression that the frames would be done and here by April or May. Guess it just proves willingness to trade money for time.

However, I've got a job lined up in China starting in late August/early September, which makes me wonder if I should just let the bike sit for a year, or cough up the extra $$ to ship it with me and ride fixed in China for a year's time....otherwise why did I wait so long to let it sit around the garage?

Where did you get a custom build for $600?

775 for the frame and fork. But summer is too short to be waiting for shipping containers from overseas.
It wasn't custom built, just made to order:D Plus, I got any color option I wanted included in the price instead of just black or blue.

I'll be posting a step by step build up of the bike as soon as my parts come in.

bonechilling 05-31-07 01:43 PM

Do tell. What kind of frame is this mystery machine?

ms.gio 05-31-07 02:17 PM

Kicking myself for not getting in on this...

exfreewheeler 05-31-07 02:37 PM

Please, don't kick yourself! You should pamper yourself! :D Someone here would be willing to let go of one that suits you just fine for not one dollar more than it's costing them... I'm sure:)

akatsuki 05-31-07 02:50 PM

I'll probably sell mine

The length of time and a fortuitous trip to Japan let me pick up some keirin stuff pretty cheaply. So I will probably just sell my frame on eBay. Especially if that picture is showing the blue color.

estratton 06-03-07 05:41 PM

Gonna pay em off, build up one with the Miche parts, the other with misc parts, and give it to my gf. She will have a sweet ride then ;)
