Singlespeed & Fixed Gear "I still feel that variable gears are only for people over forty-five. Isn't it better to triumph by the strength of your muscles than by the artifice of a derailer? We are getting soft...As for me, give me a fixed gear!"-- Henri Desgrange (31 January 1865 - 16 August 1940)

is campy xenon junk

I was looking around and this stuff seems pretty cheap compared to the rest of the campy selection, and was wondering if it is worth checking out...or if it is junky?

If you are going campy, get a used Chorus crankset so you can use their 102mm BB. The only caviat is that 135 BCD rings are hard to find in a range of sizes. I have a 45T Salsa ring. The next ring up is a 52 which would really change my gearing. I was looking for a 46 or 47, but that is impossible to find. Determine the gears you want to use before you commit. I run a 45 x 16/18 dos eno setup that works well for me, but on the occasions when I know there will be no hills, it would be nice to be able to run 47x16.

At least according to their web site, stronglight makes 46 campy rings.

135 BCD rings in funny sizes? or even in regular sizes without ramps or pins? go to Black Spire... and check out the NeoPro range. i have had a 44 ring for a 135BCD (older veloce) or 6 months now and it has been great.

NO, i don't work for them, but i was gald to be told of their stuff by YellowJersey in madison, Wisconsin, who are a pretty friendly shop for SS and fixed stuff. funny website though...

Miche track rings are 135 BCD 1/8", and come in sizes from 46-52. I've got a 46 on my Athena cranks.

I guess I should have been more specific. My needs are for a 3/32 ring since I single speed and don't run a 1/8" chain. It appears that Stronglight has a 46T ring which may help a bit.... I may just have to bite the bullet and move to a 17/19 dos eno and a larger front ring. It sucks that I have to replace my whole drive-train to get a different gear ratio. Times that by two since I have two wheels sets for my SS. So new chain $50 (KMC hollow pin), $200 for 2 Dos Enos, and ~40 for a new front ring. I guess I just need to learn to like my current setup.

Thanks to all for the pointers on possible c-ring sources for 135 bcd
