Looking for gold parts

Hello I'm building a single speed ride and i want some gold accents to work with a cream and brown paint job im going to do. Does anyone know of a headset that is gold anondized aside from chris king? Thats a little too expensive. Gold anondized deep v wheelset set up for single speed? cages? chain chainring? seatposts? brake levers? ok I'll stop sorry for asking so many questions. thanks!

Sometimes vintage bmx parts came in colors, check ebay.

Yep, Deep V rims have bright gold anodizing as an optional color so you can match it to any flip/flop hub from Phil ($250) or White Industries ($180) that can be gold anodized for an additional fee. If you want cheaper flip/flop hubs, go with a black Surly flip/flop matched to the gold Deep V.

I have a set of gold anodized suzue pro max hubs, like the ones on benscycle. I am not sure if I want to get rid of them though.

going for the Louie Vutton look on your SS?

stay youth 06-03-07 03:13 AM

thank you all so much for the feedback. im trying to make a real classy bike. i got some nice nitto promenade bars, and nice frame with relaxed geometry. i was thinking if i get gold anondized rims, it might be pointless since i will be using brakes. i will just go right through the plating. most companies do a terrible job of anondizing anyways. Im thinking of welding a truss into the bike like those old vintage iver johnson frames. Thanks again

Not if you use disc brakes. Get the cheaper mechanical disc brakes, front only and you can have gold anodized rims to your content. Deep V does a great job of anodizing. However, you'll need to upgrade your fork and hub. A "Louis Vuitton" S/S cruiser would be very classy with a matching leather saddle, handlebar and man-purse. Maybe you can gold anodize a basket on some gold anodized rear racks?
Go crazy and anodize anything and everything aluminum:

I'm thinking you may be the first person on a SS with a gold anodized seatpost to match some gold cranks.

gold parts are pretty fun to collect
started with gold campag cranks, then gold izumi chain then the gold answer pro taper risers
it doesnt really match the frame colour at all but its a change from the same old boring shiny silver.

But you might find a similar one on ebay for not to many bucks

Getting gold parts that actually match each other is fairly hard so you may want to scale back the goldness a little bit.

Just playin around...
Match will be perfect if the material, polish, and all ano specs are the same.
I polished out the Paul stuff to match our polish and then ano'd all the parts together.

I'm guessing you're not a BMXer, so I won't fault you for slaughtering that one.
It was Woody Itson on a Gold Hutch Trickstar. And closer to '85
The rumor was that it got stolen, but that was actually a DIFFERENT Hutch w/ "just" gold plated parts or something. Woody still has the OG Gold Trickstar.

Side note - Woody was one of the riders in Quicksilver.

Yes, i was a BMXer for over 15 years and as i read that i knew you were right. I hang my head in shame that i forgot it was Woody and even see that in my haste i wrote Huffy and not Hutch.
Im gonna go drink some whiskey now and cry. :(

Wow - those are very shiny and very gold. I meant that getting stuff from different manufacturers that matches can be hard. If you guys start doing matched sets then there will be some very bling bikes around soon!

stay youth 06-05-07 01:52 PM

gold headset anyone ever seen one for a threaded stem aside from the chris kind one?

Momentum 06-05-07 02:32 PM

There's another one that is pretty old (name escapes me - think it's something boutique and Italian) but it will set you back at least as much as a CK if you can even find one. Sorry, that's not much help!
