anyone whose dealt with bd know how long it takes for them to re-stock? or are those of us who missed the order out of luck?

seriously dying to get on a bike! i'd rather stay far away from building one on my first go.
on that note, anyone know how long it takes bike island to re-stock?

went to one of bd's stores (there are two in my city) to check out their bikes. they didn't stock a single fg/ss. and the guy behind the counter was just really short and completely uninterested in dealing with us. kind of lame...

And exactly how early should I submit my preorder? I ordered mine on June 30, was issued shipping tracking info number and then got an email July10 saying that the bikes sold out before my order could be processed.

Sure thing - I may be able to snap a shot later this evening. In the daylight, it has a slight grey holographic look to it, it's not 100% pure black, but it's pretty convincing from a distance, and is very thin.

Edit: sorry, didn't get a chance this eve, hopefully soon.

haha, same here. ordered the first week of may and just got it three days ago. i am loving it though.

i have some questions for those more experienced than i (my first "real" bike). i'm going to ask them here at the risk of being redundant because this thread has gotten impossibly long. i have my forum settings to show the max posts/page and it's still 110 pages long ;[. i want to replace random components on the bike however i have no experience with brands and what prices i should expect to see. i got the black kilo and i'm looking for all of these parts in black if possible.

handlebars: i wanted to try out bullhorn bars and from what i've gathered nashbar seems to be the way to go. i did a google search for "nashbar bullhorns" and these were the first result. if i bought these would i just be throwing my money away on a bad part? i don't mind buying something more expensive than these (the mid-range of bars would suit me) as long as i can resell it if it doesn't work out.

stem: i was looking at stems because a) the one on there is ugly, and b) it seems a little sketchy, but i wasn't sure what the measurements at the retailers meant. i assumed it was the diameter of the tube which comes from the fork (omg help) and into the opposite end of the bars?

brake lever and cable: i bought a shimano 105 caliper off ebay because i never saw a negative thing written about it and the price was sweet. the only other components to complete the brakes is a cable kit and lever, right? do brands matter here? should i avoid walmart cable kits?

pedals: is there a brand of pedals i should consider? i just want something more attractive/less flakey than the ones that came on the kilo.

random stuff: is there a standard for blinking lights? reflectors? tape? fenders?

also, while i was riding the bike was silent except for a splintering sound that came from the front. i didn't grease anything on the bike because i didn't realize i had to, is that why? i plan on greasing asap after i pick some grease up.

in the meantime i am going to attempt to sift through this thread a little more.

When I preordered mine (sometime in June), I got an email saying thanks for the purchase, and got a tracking number for ups (status was billing info recieved). It was supposed to ship out on July 10th, but I've been checking the site, and the status is still "Billing info recieved". I never got an email saying that it was sold out.

as soon as you order, you get a tracking number, it wont move until the bike is started its shipment. Email bikes direct and ask when your bike will be in stock, or the expected ship date of the next batch of Kilo's, thats probally the best way for you to detirmine when you'll get your bike.

i got a long email including shipping # a day or two after my order. a paypal notice saying they got their money came a day before that. the shipping notice however sat still unupdated for 2 months before the package moved.

yeah, i agree, i can see 60cm (cause that's what i have) but not 63 as much. I'm 6'3" and ride a 60 and it is just barely not too big. i could size down, i bet. (i have long torso/normal arms and legs)

Not that it matters, but I could definitely ride a 63cm, so dropping it would only make me sad...

Yeah, those stupid tall people should leave biking to normal people and stick to basketball.

i've spent a couple months getting her ready and now she's done! here's my kilo tt:

basically only the wheelset is stock..
1985 campy record crankset, campy headset, campy chorus seatpost, cinelli 1a stem, cinelli criterium bars, brooks swift saddle, brooks bar tape, mks gr-9 pedals and toe clips, cinelli leather toe straps, 17t eai cog, pasela panaracer gumwall tires, custom powdercoat and decals.

she was lots of fun to build and even more fun to ride.

w00t.

why would they drop the 60 and 63? if anything they should keep those normally stocked and just order more of the other sizes.

clothing companies should also stop selling 36x36 jeans, too, right? because, who buys those?

I DO.

also, that stuff is way too nice for a kilo. but it looks ***ing awesome!
