my stock 50cm tt pro

thinkin about takin some spacers out yet but haven't decided. something is kinda noisy, i suspect the cog. i'm gonna get one with more teeth anyway. i think i'm gonna get rid of the drops too since i never use them. leaning toward bullhorns

i like it so far. it feels super fast compared to my old ss conversion.

you can't run a 3/32 chain on a 1/8 cog...but you can run a 1/8 chain on a 3/32 cog

True, but....after changing the cog and chain to 3/32 on mine so that everything matched; pure beauty! First time out I was a shocked. Not a single sound from the drive, zero, only the sound of the tires on the pavement.

hey zip just wondering, did you lay the reflective tape parallel to the down tube and top tube, or did you wrap it around several times like everybody does? because it looks like one solid long strip of tape going parallel to the tubes.

I cut out just enough to cover each of the logos from the initial sheet that I bought from ebay, so no, I didn't have to wrap it around multiple times, simply laid it down long-ways. I do like how thin it is.

mine is pretty silent right now running a 1/8 chain on 3/32 parts but i could go for quieter...nothing like only hearing the tires rolling along

ride your bike already....or sell it.
I am not angry about the bike in the least. Actually, I'm happy to have it. My point was how easy it is to swap parts on a bike and run up a bill that exceeds the cost of the bike. Frankly, my age should have nothing to do with my post. I have no idea and don't care about the age of anyone who has advice for me. If you think 60 is old you must be a kid. There are just 2 choices in life: die young or grow old! You'll see if you are lucky enough to grow old!

Just kidding, more power to you for biking. I don't really understand what the complaint is here...you were given the bike, you upgraded some parts, all (or at least most) of which can be transferred to a new frame if you get another, and you aren't happy? If you don't like the frame you can sell it and buy another one but I don't think you will have much luck trying to convince people the bike isn't a good value.
Saw the photo- can I swap out the wheels. Just to clarify - I think the kilo is a f.... great value. I just wanted to make the point that the parts I swapped exceeded the price of the bike. I don't regret this at all. In fact I just ordered a NIB Concor. I have no intentions of selling the bike - I was just being hyper critical. this was my first fixed gear and I'm having fun. When I'm not working I'm riding. When I'm not riding or working I'm playing bike mechanic and learnng a lot from the people on this forum.

Agreed! That's why I took the bike in the first place.

Kinda ugly now ...

Figured I would go ahead and post a pic of my bike now. I've had it for about 2ish weeks I guess? Haven't had time to swap out any of the parts quite yet because I use this bike to commute to work. I can say I love this bike though, way more than my converted Schwinn Le Tour which was my daily driver for about a year previous to this.

Too bad I am so poor, I can't wait to change out the handlebars!

Oh and I installed the rear Aerospoke (as opposed to front) coz I don't plan to go brakeless on this one. Sorry for the bad image quality. It was taken with my phone at work like 15 minutes ago. Speaking of, maybe I should stop wasting time here and get back to work ...

ummm, you came here and started complaining about a free bike, you brought up age, you made an ass of yourself...here are all of your complaints below. explain to me again how you think this bike is a great value?

-but couldn't stand looking at the wheels, hubs and pedals.
-Now I have this bike that has parts that exceed the original cost of the bike new.
-I still have to swap out the stem, bars and seat.
-I think I'll swap out the frame next:-) no problems at all after that, right?

-I should have went out and bought a decent frame and added what I wanted.
-It would have been easier and I would have something of value - not to even mention maybe CHEAPER.
-I have a frame that's a bit too tight for my style, not lugged, too much pedal overlap, a color I don't like and I'm broke & tired from swapping all those parts!
-I'm 60 for Christ's sake.

-Is the Mercier a good value? IMHO No it's not a particularly good value just inexpensive.

-Would I buy one again? only if I was limited by funds.
-Frankly, the guys at BD have been very helpful in giving me details of the parts I needed to replace. They always responded to my questions very fast and were really helpful. I think they might be the best thing about the bike!

Man that is sick! What kind of orange tires are those as well as what type of brake lever? Also how did you remove the decals and make it look so clean?

Also those don't look like machined DP18s so how can there be brakes?

you don't need a machined sidewall to have a brake.

also, bikeisland sells the kilo frameset without decals.

Yeah...I'm sticking with threaded for cosmetic reasons. I want that vintage track look.

Probably going to pick up the Tange Levin. Cant beat that for the price.
