velo carbon. felt uses it on the f55 i think... it's basically an slr copy with CrN/Ti alloy rails. pretty comfy for a race-type saddle and only 50 bucks.

Funny you should ask. Two nights ago I was coming home from work. My boss's dad was driving. We were about five blocks away from my house at a traffic light. I look out my right side window and guess what I see, some dude on my IRO. It took me a bit to figure out that that was my bike and that there were only a handful of IRO's in my town, none all black with red tires. My boss's dad didn't want to give pursuit so I waited until I got home at which point I jumped in my friend's car and drove around for about an hour looking for this guy. No such luck.

All I know is that he lives within in a 5 blocks radius and takes a specific road at a specific time.

A question of my own...Putting my 27.2 DA seatpost in a Mercier would be unwise, correct? I have my heart set on the Mercier, but I hate it when parts I love (and already own) won't be compatitble.

Great saddle, also by Velo. I think it might be the same one, except its under Performance's house brand Forte. But its made by Velo, even says on the bottom of the saddle. Its light and comfortable, been riding this on my roadie.

How to build a threadless stem 101 - somebody teach me!

okay I have a mercier so I'm going to ask in here since I've seen a couple of pista with threadless stems.

so how do you do it? What parts do I need? Tools? Suggestions? Advice?

help a new guy out. Oh yeah, I'm a visual learner.

you need a fork with a longer steerer tube than your frame's headtube.

then you stick the long thing in the round hole.

haha yeah. thing is, i had most of the work with the actual headset and cutting of the steerer tube done at a shop by a friend... i was holding the fork and right there seeing it, but i wasn't actually doing it and had just come in to see if he would, so i didn't have a camera.

but yeah. i was thinking of putting it in my profile but there's no room.

ok, so if im looking to change the gearing of my bike from the 16x42 gearing it came with, would i just be able to change my back cog or would i have to also change my chainring as well?

also what would i change it to if im living in an area thats flat in some parts with marginally steep hills in others?

you can change either. one tooth difference on the chainring is going to be noticible but much less noticeable than a one tooth change on the cog.

check out the rabbit, go to google and type 'fixed gear rabbit' and i'm feeling lucky. you can figure out anything you want to know(other than how it will look) from that site. are you thinking of going up or down? a 17t in the rear is probably a good change if you want to change the cog and have a higher spin.

im looking to make it a little easier to pedal and stop using my legs. ive only been riding for a few months but i can already feel my knees starting to hurt really bad after riding. im also looking to make it easier to skid, because as it is right now i have a really hard time putting any resistance against my cranks...so im not sure if i need to be going up or down.

do you have a brake? you should use a brake if your knees hurt. also technique, technique and fit can solve all your problems.

when you skid, get all your weight forward. it's easy to skid at 42/16 if you know how to get your weight forward.

get fitted, get a brake, and make sure your spin is right first. a lower ratio will help but it won't solve other problems... get a 17t cog and do all those other things i suggested. if you just get a 17t and skid and mash all wrong and the bike doesn't fit you right and your saddle's too low you'll be in a world of hurt anyway.

you want less gear inches, but more than anything else you want a proper fit, a brake, and good technique before you skid more.
