Singlespeed & Fixed Gear "I still feel that variable gears are only for people over forty-five. Isn't it better to triumph by the strength of your muscles than by the artifice of a derailer? No, he said that they were more expensive and, as he thought, better than Formulas.

When did he say that? He seemed to make the case that he had no interest in Formula hubs. He thinks the quality isn't as high as the ones he is using now.

It's all in the thread. There is no set price-point yet, but I think he was saying something like $500-$600 complete, and the framesets would be available stand-alone for $300-ish. That's all from memory, though.

The current stock hubs are more expensive than the formulas but the bikesdirectguy didn't mention that they are worse than the formulas. What's so bad about the stock ones anyway? Can the bearings be replaced with phils like the formulas?

ive had some issues with toe overlap.. just one of those things. I imagine things will improve partially with the addition of some MKS pedals/clips.

Why would you think that MKS pedals and clips would interfere less than some generic ones? The issue is with the headtube angle and the fork, not the pedal type, since they're all about the same size. So buying some expensive NJS clips and pedals won't magically move the fork out far enough to eliminate toe-overlap.

i actually received some mks pedals and clips from a friend, and it did not alter the overlap at all.but once again,i just dont see why its a problem at all, unless you only go 2 miles an hour and take 90 degree turns.

It really shouldn't be a problem, and anyone who rides sub-52cm frames regularly should be used to toe overlap by now. I know I am - I have toe-overlap on literally all of my bikes.
