Nitto Tengaeshi (天返し) Stem.

Anyone have one of these? Looking to get a shorter stem, and i might get this. Any reviews would be appreciated.

Thank you very much.

I never understood the appeal of this stem. It looks like the 40mm stems spec'd on bike boom era steeds, the ultimate in "Hey, maybe this huge bike actually can fit me" thinking. Why not have a bike that doesn't steer as if you're being pulled to the side by an electromagnet and instead has a properly sized top tube? Besides, that thing is basically a stem riser with a threadless-esqe stem. You could replicate this with a riser from Company X ($10) and a cheapo stem ($10), but you would *gasp* lose some weird Nitto fetishism.

I believe this stem is/was used by track racers in Japan so that they can quickly change their bars and stem lengths out. That's really the best and only reason to have one.

BF had a team of monkeys working on this for five years.
