i always forget this...

how small do track cogs go? it's 14t, right? but i think i've heard that shimano made one as low as 12t, just not for very long, so there aren't many.

babychris 06-10-07 08:38 PM

I know they made 12t suntour ones.

sirpoopalot 06-10-07 08:45 PM

the 12t and (maybe 13t also) ones would require smaller (eg. thinner) lockring..because the chain would hit a normal sized lockring.

don't bother with a track cog under 14t. just go larger chainring.

humancongereel 06-10-07 08:48 PM

thanks, i'll try not to forget this. i swear this has been brought up before, but i couldn't find the thread...

oh, and i know a larger chainring is better, but i'm thinkin about building up a bike with a bmx chainring, so it may have to have a smaller chainring.

i like bmx chainrings:

I was just saying that they aren't that hard to find.

how bigga ratio you wanna run? bmx rings usually go to 44t or so, and 44x14 is 82 gear inches..way way big for the streets..unless you wanna run a bmx ring on the track which is kinda illogical

i didnt say anything about the availability of said lockring, just that they required a special lockring.

meh, low 70s to maybe mid 70s.

the thing is, i know there are some chainrings i could get at 44t or 45t, like i'd like. but there are some i've found that are kinda cool, but top out at 39t, 40t...some don't even go that high.

willypilgrim 06-10-07 08:55 PM

I think he was just trying to illustrate that they are not difficult to obtain.

humancongereel 06-10-07 08:56 PM

don't fight, guys. he was just trying to help...it's hard to understand people's exact meanings on the intarwebz sometimes.

yeah. I was just trying to make it easier if he did want to use that set up.

exfreewheeler 06-10-07 09:18 PM

OOOH! I like BMX chainwheels too! I seen them as high as 46 (I think).

What cranks can you use with that FSA? FSA?

The cranks tend to be pricey though.

bmx cranks

exfreewheeler 06-10-07 09:26 PM

no kidding.

I was asking Human. More like, FSA or Profile Racing etc.

humancongereel 06-10-07 09:29 PM

ha ha ha...no...i dunno about the cranks, i have a bmx and i'm really doing badly at learning tricks, so i 'll probably cannibalize that. the cranks are sort of worn, maybe they're fsa.

any bmx crank with that one one hole with pin mouting system will work

exfreewheeler 06-10-07 09:32 PM

I understand... but still, I was asking Human which ones in particular he was going to use.

I really like that setup that MrWhite has on his Fixed.

hazylines 06-11-07 07:30 AM

I have a 13tooth cog that I may be getting rid of soon.

Edit: Its a Dura-Ace piece, so they make them for sure.
