Singlespeed & Fixed Gear "I still feel that variable gears are only for people over forty-five. Isn't it better to triumph by the strength of your muscles than by the artifice of a derailer? Local builders is what it's all about. Johnny is local to me, hence my suggestion.

I like Ken's line-by-line a lot, though.
I don't know if he took it into account, but I believe a touch of money could be saved through buying a (Miche) grouppo. Don't know if he took this into account.

But I agree with the whole "find a decent frame for reasonably cheap and use the rest on components" schtick. You could always upgrade frame and shift components over, after all.

I might have stretched the truth a bit, but there is some steel in there....and I hear that it is in fact, "real".

I would hope for as much had I spent $2,000 on a set of clubs.

+1 On Miche Group

I agree you can save quite a bit with the purchase of the Miche Track Group...Chuck's bikes shows them available in 165mm and 170mm crank length. For the $310 price you get tremendous value. His link is:

https://www.chucksbikes.com/store/

Click on the "Other" tab on the left of the page, and scroll down.

Our local fixed gear shop in St. Petersburg, Fl has built up some "Bare Knuckle" bikes...real nice frames and I believe they are the same as the Nessuno frames (Italian built and supplied by EAI).

This track frame made by Waterford at $725 could be tempting as well.

https://www.benscycle.net/index.php?m...oducts_id=1429

Good luck with the 2K decision, and keep the post informed if you make a purchase.

It should take a LOT more than 400 miles to figure out subtle things like riding style and preferences. If you don't take the time to do so, you might as well throw the $2000 away. Spend $200 or so to refine the bike you have, ride through the fall and winter, and put a deposit down on a custom frame in the late winter or early spring. Then by summer you'll be a a bike that is truly right for you.
