Singlespeed & Fixed Gear "I still feel that variable gears are only for people over forty-five. Isn't it better to triumph by the strength of your muscles than by the artifice of a derailer? We are getting soft...As for me, give me a fixed gear!"-- Henri Desgrange (31 January 1865 - 16 August 1940)

First fixie ride today

64 miles. My knees hurt and my cog slipped, but other than that it was a lot of fun. It was a flat ride with little traffic and I was easily able to go faster than I usually do on the geared bike. I guess it was because it felt better to go faster what with the higher gearing and everything.

It's that straight chainline that makes going fast easier. It's gotta be. I'm gonna keep telling myself that anyways. Congrats and make sure you tighten that cog and lockring.

Yeah, must be made of steel (edit: OP, not OP's bike), I rode around my HS parking lot loop once first and that was enough.

Yeah man, thats incredible. My first fixed ride was 35 miles and I thought I was going to die. I had no idea what I was getting myself into.

I wasn't running one on the first ride, but I installed one for the second ride.
