Crappy End to my night last night.

Got home from work, got on my bike for a 2 mile ride to a friends house for dinner, rode pretty hard as I'm trying to get in shape. come to this parking lot of a community center I usually cut through, see some kids from 16-18, look a little hood, but I'm open minded and figure it's cool to ride through. As I ride past one of the kids sucker punch me, I wobble a little and keep riding to try and avoid anymore. One of the other guys pushes me over, so I jump up 4 dudes coming at me. I'm bobbing and weaving, get hit once or twice, on was pretty square but didn't hurt, so i'm backing up just trying to avoid punches etc. I notice my bike is quite a bit away, so I start working my way towards it. New kilo tt, had it for about two weeks so wasn't keen on it being stolen. Finally another grip of kids 6 or so come and break it up, and find my glasses for me. So I get my bike back and ride off. Now today I have to got get surgery on my pinky since it was broke in the fall from the bike. Weird thing is, I didn't say anything to start it, and they didn't try to take anything. I thought about hitting them, but was like, well 4 are on me now, and I saw 6 or 8 more, so if I do start hitting back and hurting them, what'll happen next. Anyway just wanted to rant some. I'm going to start carrying something on me, as this **** sucked, more of an annoyance than anything. Anyway, keep safe out there.

yeah, good call, I'm glad I let it go though, I had a giant chain with a massive lock on it, so once I got back to my bike I could have laid out some street justice, but was tired from the ride etc, and stayed calm the whole time. This was weird because the fights I've been in, i've just went crazy and tried to knock the person's head off. not sure why this happened the way it did but, didn't feel I should go back after them. Whatever I guess, I'll try not to ride alone if at all possible. Maybe make some mounts for a Louisville Slugger on my bike. Since I'm in Louisville it wouldn't look wierd, people make canes out of them here. Would look like I'm showing my love for Louisville, but could be very handy if needed.

That sucks, nearly happend to me afew times, usually drunk ***holes without any sort of provoking, I always seem to miss their fist by about and inch! Lucky so far I guess but it was probably a good thing you didn't hit back, I mean if these people did that to you for no reason I wouldn't want them out looking for revenge after beating them up!

But again that sucks, what is the world coming to?

I've thought about making a frame pump look-a-like club out of hardwood. I'd paint it black or silver and write Zefal on the side.

obviously circumstances vary and

on occasion if you dont fight back you die

but for the most part

the major draw back to using weapons in these situations

is that you have to be a ninja to keep a crowd that big from taking it from you

and then youve just upped the ante

Jesus man!
I live in Louisville too (also ride fixed), where in the heck were ya? I want to make sure I don't get jumped while I am on my bike. Should stick one of those mini Sluggers in my bag when I am ridding from now on. Maybe just keep my chain whip with me for splittin heads....

Has been talk of getting together a fixed gear ride then hitting up Cumberland Brews afterward. Will PM ya when it happens, we need to get some folks in this city together.

1- that sucks.

2- weapons, like said before, have to be used judiciously and effectively- a crowd of 6 means that you're either going to have a hell of a time laying them all out or you have to use it to get away and then be sure that they're not going to somehow catch up to you on foot, bike, car or cell phone.

3- you're lucky the others broke it up. if you had fought back i don't know if that would have happened.

louisville, ky is what was said above

and pepper spray sounds like the best bet, small, lightweight and pretty effective, maybe even in a group of 6

Bear spray sounds even better. Just don't spray it when you're facing a headwind. Heal soon.

Seriously, though, it's good you're mostly OK. Be more careful in the future. There are a lot of stupid pricks out there.

A slight warning though, there may be legal ramifications for using bear spray (or even dog sprays like Halt) on people as opposed to regular pepper spray.
