im not a messenger but my best load was a dozen live crabs. I took them 8 miles from a sketchy wholesale seafood place to a friends house to cook an awesome dinner. I could feel them wiggling in my bag.

My buddy Jay had a client that was a platic surgeon. Everyday Jay was delivering foreskins for skin grafts.

I chatted with a guy who was towing a trailer full of blood once.

BLUEPRINTS!...watch the height when the roll is standing on an angle outside of your bag. While splitting lanes I hit the back of a bus with the top of a roll which twisted me off my bike and onto the trunk of a car in a parallel lane. Oh the humility.

i had to pick up something (presumably a cheque) that nobody wanted to give to me, presumably because it was for a ridiculous amount of money.

oh jeez, i forgot: i had to deliver to a restaurant a huge box of laundered towels, aprons, etc. had to use the trailer for that one; i could barely lift it.

It was a carbon crazy light racing paddle...but 8' long.
I taped it to the top tube...its kind of freaky when you turn and this 3' lance out front of the bike is still going straight.

OK, i was a motorcycle messenger in the 80's just after uni... unemplyment rocks, but not as much as eating does.

four computer monitors, only 5km, but they were boxed: one in the rear bag (about a two foot square opening), one in front of the bag, one lashed on top of them, and one cradled in my arms on the tank. probably about 12 inch monitors, pretty small. and it was raining, as i recall.

Two small dogs in a dog carrier for a large dog. (Stay still and stop squirming dman you!)

and once (and only once) 'four small bags' of something heavy, i was told on the radio. arrive to collect and its four bags of lead shot, about 50-60 pounds per bag. small bags alright, but heavy canvas sacks just under a foot high. (Wat's that mate? you don't have a pick up? you're on a motorcycle? hey, its OK, Ill take the job...

I nearly crashed several times as they shifted in the gearsack behind me.

of course, i live in Asia now, and all that **** pales into total insignificance here.... see other photos above.

oh, yeah, i had a check for a few mil once. that made me feel rich for a few minutes.

Lotsa strange things, but "crazy"? That had to be $23,500.00 cold hard cash in 1993. Our insurance didn't cover that in any way whatsoever and I told the bank that, told the client that and my office told them both that, the client insisted I cash the check (I thought it was a deposit until I gave the teller a note attached to it) and bring the $$ to them. It's not so much that there was much risk involved, to me or the client, but things just aren't done that way. At least use a sealed bank bag or pay the fees for special coverage, jeez

Oh yeah, I've done 8 bottles of champagne once. That was actually a great run, they all went to different offices in the same building- got counted as 8 different runs :-)

I once brought home some conduit and PVC from the hardware store on my bike. I was on the mtb, so whenever somebody looked like they were about to cut me off from a side street I would stand up and extend the pipe like I was jousting. The look on people's faces was the greatest!

Not necessarily heavy, but odd.
some rare asian fish (thats what the label said) in a plastic bag.
Placed it carefully in my bag, and tried to ride as smoothly as possible. Funny look upon p/up as a biker, funny look from security when I told them I should probably take it right up to the office, and not to the mailroom.

i work for an independently owned restaurant, and they have 3 other sister restaurants and i carry wine, liquor, beer, and kitchen tools between restaurants when needed. i serve but the management saw value in my bike, and i couldn't agree more with them paying me to ride a couple miles a day.

Empty 1/4 Keg. Returned this to the brewery about 8 miles away. (I'm not a messenger though)

Cowboy boots!

Not a messanger, but I saw one carrying a box that was 10ft x 4inches x4 inches. He took up a full lane of traffic it was so huge. It stuck out of his bag and almost hung over the side walk. It caused me to do a double take when I saw it, very impressive.

While I was in bangladesh,

I saw a guy getting a rikshaw ride home after his motorcycle broke down.

thing is, he still had his bike with him!!!

A full on yamaha 125cc + 2 passengers + rikshaw constructed of steel rods & girders.

being pulled by a malnourished over worked rikshaw driver via a fixed gear drivetrain.

I had a camera on me, but didnt get it out fast enough!!!

This is nothing to bad but I had a couple of jobs on me, a box of legal books, and a few envelopes packed with x-rays or something, a lot of plastic sheets x-ray size and a whole lot of them, but it was 10 miles out and up the largest hill in the city to get to the drops, nice ride though. Carried alot of blood and tissue samples too, I was always afraid I would figure out a way to break one open in my bag then have some infected blood all over the inside of my bag. Heaviest was maybe 3 copy boxes full, it was a hand truck job that I guess they didn't want to pay hand truck prices for so they forgot to say it was a hand truck job. The kids that worked in-house for printing companies, I think they probably had it the worst, I saw a couple of those kids carry way worse then a couple rolls of blue prints.

Most annoying jobs should be another thread, fedral building security, worst messenger centers, mail room staff that hate life because they have to push the B5 button on the elevator to get to their office and deicide to take it out on you because you get to spend your day in natural light and don't have green skin.
