Sorry, let me rephrase that for you. Josh is no better than the rest of the stupid *******s that volunteer their time to make the forums a great place to poke fun at other people, their bikes, clothing, and gear. Hmm. No, I like my original version better.

Apologies Shmalogies, it was funneh! no apology accepted or expected. People like that make it worth $20.00, the other $5.00 is covered by the people that fell for it, err the ones that fell too hard for it anyway His post was fixed when he broke it.

Your first line conflicts with your second.

But people here do often talk **** about other people's choices, and that'd be ok if people asked "what is your opinion of".. But really, people don't even offer constructive advise. Just things like "your bike is stupid".

But your opening attempt is a bit like the Duke LaCross DA approach: latch on like a rabid dog...

I dunno Brian, I've got high hopes for you. Joe's place is undergoing big changes..

I've been a member since pretty early on, so I figure I'll chime in but try to keep it brief.

Anyone who thought that thread was anything but a joke deserves the "stress" the impending closing of the forum caused them. Perhaps it will teach them to engage in better reading comprehension, some could certainly use it.

Over the years my biggest beef with the BikeForums site has been over moderation and sanitation of posts. The pitboss should be given an award for straddling the fine line of keeping things in check while still allowing posts that are more interesting than what you would find on the AARP site. Along the way he's managed to inject some wit and wisdom too. It's a tough and thankless job that he's done and frankly I don't know how he's kept at it so long.

Let the cry babies cry, they probably aren't the user base you want here anyway. Just my $.02 and it might not even be worth that. Best of luck moving this ship forward.

... at the risk of scaring anyone with yet another blue star showing up on the scene...

I mostly lurk around here from time to time, in fact probably don't have a single post in the forum, but I do notice some of what pitboss and brian are trying to tone down here. It seems that a large part of the problem is a large majority of posts go off topic and/or hostile in short order. Instead of letting a thread die after the question has been answered or the suggestion for the search function been made, crap often starts getting posted. There are a number of 'off topic' threads here, and if that's not enough there's a whole 'off topic' forum called Foo. So is it too much to ask to tone down the unnecessary rhetoric, rants, cheap shots and general mayhem in threads where it isn't needed.

btw - many of the reports to pitboss's 'shut down' thread were filled with good information and feedback. I think getting that feedback was probably 50% of the reason he started the thread. Wanting to see who really cared about this subforum and what they thought about it.

Cheers all.

Scare tactics don't really work... I've seen it on other forums. You just need to ban accounts and IP's to give people the message to play nice.

I don't think there's enough friendly jokes. I guess since fixed gear riding has gained popularity, it seems that a lot of people are doing that "I rode fixed way before..." attitude. I'm into jokes and hapiness and rainbows.

And dutret was the first construction post in a thread I started last week. But that guy is a bucket of wet hate for youth and fun sometimes.

i know this bike caters to an older crowd (aside from this forum and the bmx forum), but this is probably the most tame forum i've ever posted on.

although i haven't been reading this forum for very long, i don't think it's very cliquey at all (maybe the regional people that left were cliquey). i think the forum is pretty welcoming if people ask a legitimate question and seem to have done at least a little background work. i agree some people are unnecessarily jerks (maybe myself included, i don't post very often though), but when you see, "can i convert this bike?" four times on the first page of the forum, it gets old. especially when 165/pitboss did a great job of stickying the fix gear resource thread with references to several other threads within the forum, not to mention the search function.

also, whoever didn't laugh when they read the "we're shutting down the forum" thread needs to find better things to do with their time. also, i can't believe people are actually upset with 165/pitboss because of this...ahahaha

Not for nothing( <<< ) but sometimes people in here are just too harsh at certain times.

When I go to the commuting forum, they are all always pleasant and willing to help. Even to tell you to use the search, they say it differently... nicer, less abrasive.

Some people here are real poopoo pants'.

I have learned everything about fixed gear here on this forum. I intend on getting a little star next to my name soon. Lots of laughs and great entertainment.

To be as blunt as possible, you (moderators and forumites alike) are delusional if you think the user base of this forum differs from most any other forum on the net. The subject matter is almost irrelevant, the behavior is inherent to the communication medium. Forums are forums. I've been a founder, admin, mod and aloof poster on many forums, and they are all the same.

The disposition of the forum is almost solely defined by the actions of those moderating it.

Now to step off the soapbox, yes, I am volunteering to help clean up. If you're actually in need of any moderators, feel free to PM me for a resume.

sorry, I took it seriously, and gave feedback. I love this forum, but admittedly, C&V or mechanics is more forgiving than this one. Part of the problem is that this forum has:
many inside jokes
endless *****ing about hipsters (although often funny)
6 million threads about the same subjects (conversion, bags, brakes)
new users who cannot use the search function

Also, I don't get why folks hate Dutret. He has his opinion, doesn't candy coat it, and actually has constructive things to say. Ok, informative things to say. Ok, most of the time.

all in all, it's not an unfriendly place, at least to me.

Not sure if you are being sarcastic, but if not I agree completely. Anyone who thinks bikeforums is unfriendly should go check out any other forum on the internet, specifically music ones.
