5th grade football, 6th grade basketball. ever since my knees haven't been too keen. fixed gear neither hurts nor helps that.

My knees used to get pretty hurty and I credit high school sports (wrestling in particular) and my profession (metalwork) which puts me up and down ladders, kneeling on steel and concrete and just about every akward position you can imagine. I've been riding fixed for about a year now and have noticed an incredible improvement in my knees. In fact, they give me no problems at all now. I average about 150+ miles a week.

yeah I used to have really bad knees from hockey but when I started riding they hurt less and less

stretch more. possibly raise your saddle. knee pain shouldn't be a "given" in cycling, fixed or no.

wow, I made this thread five minutes before passing out from the drink, totally was not expecting it to survive

I am just a dumbass kid who thought a little pain here and there was normal, and since my body wasn't being listened to it decided to put me in time-out for a few months

sold the fixed and used the profits (I have always bought used and made a decent turnaround) to hang some 9 speed ultegra on a santa cruz roadster frame. after a proper fitting it feels like I could ride until sunrise

damn I guess I can't post here anymore until the IRO gets here

I've had 2 months off from ice hockey and my knees no longer ache, so it's not the fixed gear riding that did it.

My knees are ****ed up since birth, more or less, because of a deformation in my legs' bones. But I find that cycling does help, if I don't climb too much on a high gear, i.e. if Iavoid mashing too hard. Since I've started cycling a lot, I have noticed an improvement.

However, I don't fix, I freewheel, and my gearing is really low - I spin like a devil, if I want to achieve any decent speed.
