http://www.motobecane.com/warranty.html A lifetime warranty, sounds like some stuff you better watch out for. They only stand behind thier bikes forever. I bought an eighties Super Mirage (I think eighties) and I like it. The rear axle broke, but the bike had a lot of use and I don't think it had a lot of love. I love it though, like it more than my Raleigh.

As has been pointed out countless times, the Motobecane
that made your Super Mirage is not the same company as
Motobecane today.

Also, their warranty is complete bull****. "Bending the
frame, fork or other components is not covered by this
warranty." Completely useless, not worth the pixels it's
digitally printed on.

There is a recent post in the road cycling forum about someone who had issues with a motobecane bike that arrived is less than perfect shape.

Long in short of it, the owner posted and corrected the issue with the guys bike, in like 2 days. Left a reasonable post as well. Not that it was not annoying as hell to the guy, it at least got corrected.

There does seem to be a couple guys on here who have an axe to grind, and just make up **** as they go along.

One guy here in Houston bought a Motobecane. When the seatpost broke after two weeks, he asked for a replacement. He was told "that bike comes with an odd size of seatpost that we can't locate".

Buyer beware.[/quote]

Just saw this.......my messenger/track has a 27.2 seat post. I know its an odd size......where will i ever find a replacement**********????

I've heard that French bikes are built to strange dimensions.

It's not a French bike though. They've just taken the name.

Shaneezes.. There are a couple of guys on here that hate Moto's with a passion. From the people that actually OWN one, there seems to be nothing but love. So to all the haters who own or work in LBSs (even though there are nice helpful bike techs in my LBS) whining about how Moto's can't be put together properly without a bicycle technician, you have insulted everyone elses intelligence. How the hell did you learn bike mechanics? It's a friggin' bike. You learned by tinkering with it. Not a single part on these REQUIRE an advanced degree in computers or mechanics to put together. Until there are electronic sensors that measures stress on the brakes, cassettes, cranks, chains, stem, fork, frame, tires, rims, cables, hubs, spokes, handlebars, grips, seatposts, saddle, etc...that only a trained certified mechanic needs to diagnose..anyone should be able to figure out how to fix whatever is ailing their ride. If you're feeling threatened by people actually LEARNING to do assembly, repairs, upgrades, etc..themselves, then maybe you need to work on your customer service and stop being such a damn "oh-no-I'm-so-much-better-than-anyone-that-rides-a-Moto" snob.

BTW...

What AMERICAN bike companies cover that? Let me know please. EVEN IF you manufacture your OWN frames (which I doubt) at your LBS, would you offer an UNLIMITED LIFETIME WARRANTY? I'd be happy to buy ANY bike with an UNLIMITED LIFETIME WARRANTY and thrash the hell out of it so I can get a new one!

I KNOW. That IS exactly my POINT.

Also, WHO the hell SAID they had TROUBLE assembling a
Motobecane?

radcopter 07-02-07 12:53 PM

my brother has a motobecane mtb he got from bikesdirect and he seems pretty happy with it.

I'm wondering ABH, do the bikes in your shop come in complete disassembly from your American mfgs or are they partially assembled?

Well, I own a Motobecane Elite FS which is a hybrid model and I like it very much. I have had no problems with anything on it at all. I upgraded the saddle to a Brooks B66 Champion and added Nashbar Trekking handlebars with Specialized bar tape. I bought the bike from Chicabuke on Ebay and it came in exellent condition in 3 days. No problem assembling it - all the hard stuff is already done for you. It did take me some time to get the bike fitted properly to myself - you give up that support you would get at the LBS when you buy something like this over the internet. A proper fitting would have helped, but I believe I have now read up enough on it and have it adjusted properly now. If you like doing these things for yourself this is not a problem. If you want built in support you should probably just go to the LBS and get the bike that way.
