rookie to the game..
 

i've been riding a fixed gear since january and loving it. used to have a 80 something fuji track bike that i used to ride around my boring city until i bought a murray (which is a 55cm) converted fixed gear from a friend in richmond. after riding that for a minute i felt comfortable enough to purchase a new bike which i got a mercier tt (which is a 60cm).

ride with no breaks, but i plan on getting them for my murray once i get a few new parts for it. don't think i'll put any on the mercier though. do admit riding without breaks one has to be more conscious of their surroundings. started riding around my neighborhood before i even thought about taking it to the streets. some of my friends used to ride bmx, but thats over and done with which leaves me the only one in the group who rides any kind of bike.

i got into riding cause i need some sort of way to keep in shape plus a new hobby that i can learn and share the knowledge with others. i feel like this is something i should of gotten into a long time ago, because it's probably the most fun i've had with a bicycle, but like i've said before living in a city where everyone drives where they need to be don't see to many bikes out. just kids on their lil bmx bikes is pretty much it.

pretty guilty of lurking the forums for a hot minute trying to pick up new knowledge of any kind didn't want to create a name for the sake of me asking 45345234 questions when i could just read. although i've gained a little by diving into things and figuring it out for myself.

i still want to change out the seat and the toe clips..suggestions would be nice.

this one came with a haro gear so i'm told. don't know really much of anything about the bike. just that it's murray. i do have plans to repaint it, get brand new tires, rims, seat, seat post, and rims.

Saddle's kinda low; Does your torso feel too stretched out?

I don't know what saddle to recommend. For something racier, a Tioga would look sick. For something comfortable, a Selle Italia SLR Gel Flow would be great. Those are both extreme ends of the spectrum though. I'm just emphasizing that I don't know what you want.

like the selle, price is kind of out of my range, but am looking for comfort. thanks.


seat does seem low, but it's position is perfect for me.

Brooks are affordable. I don't have any experience with them, but most people like 'em.

BUT this is awesome:

the fact that they dont ride sucks

but that you do despite being alone is wonderful

BTW, what is this spoke cards thing is all about? I've never seen it here in Japan. What's it for? To just show off? But are you riding THAT slow then so it doesn't come off? I imagine it would get in drivetrain and you'll fall off the bike. I don't even have spoke reflectors on my bikes, they're dangerous too. They DO come off at the speed of around 50 km/h or even less.

Unless your wheel had no tension at all, you just shove 'em far enough into your spokes and they'll stick.
