what's fun in ABQ?
 

I'll be in albuquerque at the end of the month with bike, what's fun? where to ride?
any points of interest to check out?

I was wondering that as well. ABQ is one place that's always intrigued me as a place to reside.

I used to know a girl in ABQ. What a ride.

There's a bunch of bars downtown, coffee shops up in the university area. If you like to just plain ride, there are some fairly nice paved trails. This town has almost no traffic congestion, so the roads are pretty much always full of fast moving idiots who think that you should get the **** off them. That said, feel free to PM me and you can hang out with us posengers and drink iced coffee and look at boobs.

I second that - there are a ton of routes in the city that have nice bike lanes and mild traffic. The city is built in a valley, so if you are heading east/west you are going up or down; I ride a 48x17, and can handle a 48x15, anything more might be rough. Remember that it is very sunny, dry and hot, so if you're not from the desert, wear sunscreen and drink plenty of water. Hopefully the heat will keep the goatheads at bay, but a spare tube is always a good idea. There are sometimes organized fixie rides on the weekend, but I think they've died down for the summer. PM me too, I'll be training for the Red River Century (NOT fixed), but I'd probably be up for a BFSSFG fixie ride if I'm in town, especially if it involves coffee and looking at boobs.

its a major cross roads of america for trucking east to west north to soulth I would assume thats all the bugs bunny refference come from.
whats cool here hmmmm .........um a cool place to ride I guess kinda bike friendly lots of bike trails and such, a great roadie town.

not a huge scene as far as fixed goes but growing rapidly. I have only met LoRok once and have never seen him again so.......it not like you run into people evry were on fixed gear ****e

I ride with some cool kids every once in awhile(I'm old and they ride late, but fun as hell when I do hang with them)

straight riding not much of a trix scene here I think its just me as far as trix go.

some of these ride are not brakeless friendly....at all. they will not let you ride with them!

For sure, any organized fixie ride I've heard of requires a front brake. Like sniks said, depends how you roll - most of the rides I've come into contact with are roadies training or track racers without a track, and both groups tend to ride with brakes (as do I).

then there are us crazy kids that ride true track frames undrilled without brakes.

that go to those rides for the first time and get shunned.

most of us can handle our bike with out brake just fine.

no. but for sure.




how many poeple are on here from ABQ?

My understanding is that the rides tend to be public, and when you're riding in a paceline with a bunch of people who you might not know (i.e. thier abilities are unknown), you want everyone to have a brake to reduce the chances of some tool plowing through the group when the guy in front has to stop for a car, etc. I don't think there is as much an attitude of "brakeless riders are stupid", as keeping the ride open to and safe for all.

bringing the beater, I'll most likely be hanging out in town that friday night looking for something to do.

p.s.
I went to school in AZ, have no problem riding in the desert and no ride is too long or too hilly. I just want to ride around and see what ABQ is all about. I will be riding my brakeless beater bike and look forward to seeing a new town and drinking beer.

I say we all go for an evening ride on Friday (7pm-ish, after it stops raining and starts to cool?) and end up at Kellys, over 20 brews on tap and patio seating.

Sounds good. I would like to mention that I am going to attempt to find a projector soon for screening "Red Light Go" on the side of a building somewhere, and having a ride follow. If anyone's interested I'll keep you updated. I might be able go get this going for that weekend, depending on projector availability.

Albuequerque is a flucking sweet town and a terribly hard to spell. Great place to hang out. Neat down town, and campus. The campus area some neat little shops and such. Watch out for thorns, though. We got 2 flats with 40 plus thorns in the first 10 minutes.
