Fairings on an fixXxed?

Ok, so I've seen this bike:

It's from windwrap fairings demo bikes for sale section,
http://www.windwrap.com/demobike.htm

Here's moar about it:

How does a fairing work out on a fixXed? Cause I'd expect it would be blowfuller going uphill due to the extra weight and this would be compounded by the sucktitude of getting geared out faster when you're someplace flat due to aero. Of course if you live somewhere flat I expect it would be pretty neat.

Anyways zziper also got fairings for DF's:

I know i want one. I would think its an over all performance increase, up or down. It shouldn't be that heavy, and if it is just ride it out.

Cynikal 07-07-07 10:36 AM

I thought was to protect the dog in the basket.

diff_lock2 07-07-07 10:37 AM

What dog?! lol and 200$ fogetaboutit.

Cynikal 07-07-07 10:38 AM

What else is a basket for but foir your poodle?

bonechilling 07-07-07 10:55 AM

That's the most worthless bike accessory I've seen since Aerospoke wheels.

Aldone 07-07-07 12:06 PM

am I to only one who want to puke ??

blickblocks 07-07-07 12:20 PM

If I had a reverse tandem recumbent trike, I wouldn't mind putting fairings on it (basically making it a car).

Not on a fixie. Not like this. Not like this...

Dude.. riot shield for bike.

Supposedly those make quite a difference in speed, but you're going to cancel out the effects on a fixed gear, unless the gear ratio is just right. Maybe it'd be fun for messing around on the velodrome, though.

doofo 07-07-07 01:43 PM

fairings rock

Lmao yeah, ride through riots.

Little bit warm though, as it greatly reduces airflow over the body. And since power production is directly related to sheeding body heat, it would probably slow you down overall.

that would really make smoking a bong on a bike alot easier...

dustinlikewhat 07-08-07 02:49 PM

so when do we start?

Jerseysbest 07-08-07 03:01 PM

For fear of looking absolutely ridiculous on a fixed gear bike, I would never..

I suggest immediately...

With that fairing/windscreen attached to the HANDLEBARS, and fork, it would act like a huge sail in crosswinds. Making the steering very... trouser filling at speed. It would work better if it was attached to the FRAME.

markierausch 07-08-07 11:04 PM

that is the stupidest thing i have ever seen.

Suttree 07-08-07 11:16 PM

throw a sidecar on it and some cranky dude named fritz
with a smg.

www.theanthills.com ... It's a local site, and if you look at "single speed conversion" on the main page, it shows how to hack a frame into a pipe.
