How do you tame the murderous rage against drivers?

How do you tame the murderous rage against drivers?

Some 60 year old granny ****** today got mad when I rode past her, in the bikelane, and she was turning without a turn-signal. (turn-signals are treated as a sign of weakness here) The light changed and we all went at the same time, but she got mad at me and started laying on her horn. I wanted to chew her brittle hip bones and beat her about her cotton-puff quaff of old granny ****** hair. People getting mad at me when they are ****ing idiots makes me insane with rage, and I'm not sure how much longer I can hold it back. I think I might kill someone.

if all you got was a horn, then be thankful, I had an old lady tell me to go to hell and that should would run me over.

ease up pal, it's only going to get worse.

I know it's going to get worse, that's why I'm asking how to ease up. What is your trick? Do you have some little mantra you say or something?

After 13 years messing and 25+ years of city riding I have taken a zen approach. The whole anger thing is only what people expect/want. An I-Pod has changed my whole perspective on a$$hat car drivers. Music calms the savage beast?

Maybe I just ride differently, but I rarely encounter *******s on the road. Most cars around here yield to me and are usually incredibly patient. but then again, I'm huge with a shaved head.

edit: just went for a ride around the block and some ***** in a minivan honked at me, was riding on a two way side street with cars parked on one side, apparently she thought she didn't have enough room to pass me at a narrow section of road and not come close to oncoming traffic.

i was rolling on 9th ave and this cabbie was honkin at me like crazy cuz I took the whole lane but was going about 20mph. i just ignored him and he just switched lanes. on things like driver holding horns when they are behind, you gotta be aware but calm at the same time because usually they are being impatient when they do that. but i love to hate it when they honk at you, speed around you, and come to a speeding stop because the light turned red. they do all that for nothing and it always amazes me

i'm one of the most mild mannered people around, and i ride everyday so i'm in traffic a lot.

almost all of the time, i'm in complete control and despite a few 'eff you's here and there, the riding is pleasant. but, maybe 1 time out of 1000, the anger just comes up so fast that it's almost impossible to control right away. those are the times that i scare myself.

That's exactly what I'm talking about. Maybe I need to watch fight club again or something, let some people run me over.

I left Los Angeles. Now I ride in Kentucky blue grass. Problem solved. Not really but it's a heck of a lot better.

I love seeing that, or when, after swerving around and revving their engine, traffic backs up to a stop or the flow of traffic isn't any faster than what you're riding at.

I make mistakes like anyone when riding, but the few drivers I do encounter that are *******s are just way too impatient and automatically think that if they're behind a bike they're going too slow and/or being impeded somehow

I play the drums, so I never have a chance to feel mad. It all leaves my system when I play.

The whole wave like they're your good friend one works for me. If I'm in a bad mood I risk it and put both headphones on all the way up, ignorance is bliss. I take one off when I get to an MUP.

Blowing kisses will get em going good as well. I usually keep my cool unless they actually throw something at me, nothing contains that rage.

grab a dynamo hub, connect it to a sensitive body part of your choice, with a switch, then whenever you get angry, press a button and you are back to normal. Or at least not angry

Unfortunately that quote has the disadvantage of suiciding the character who said it about 0.2nanoseconds later.
