Windsor the Hour

It's $299 and seems like a great deal. Obviously some cheap components, but I'd upgrade them as I go.
The main thing is it's one of the only fixies in the price range with a 64 cm option.

back in my day, you couldn't build a set of track wheels for $300... if it appeals to you, buy it. it's a track bike, not a rocket ship. there ain't much to it so it doesn't surprise me you can buy one for that price these days. I'd bet that rig would be more than enough for 95% of the folks in forum 178.

i got one. it's a decent ride. i also ride a KHS Flite, Bianchi Pista, and IRO Angus. they all feel the same to me. well maybe the Pista feels a little more twitchy than the others.

Wow, if you just sold all those budget bikes, you could pretty easily afford one very good custom bike.

After switching to a higher gear ratio I realized how flimsy The Hour's frame is. It's also pretty heavy at about 20lbs fully built. I'd say the sealed Formula hubs are about the only good thing on this bike.

That being said, I suppose it's decent for someone just getting into fixed gear bikes. If you are working on a tight budget and don't expect an awesome spec list, go for it!

Define flimsy. Flimsy as opposed to dirt jumping frame or flimsy as opposed to what a road frame should feel like?

It's flimsier than a track frame should be. Track frames are supposed to be stiff for optimum acceleration while sprinting. When I sprint on my Windsor I can feel some of my power transfer being absorbed by the flex in the frame and I can see the bottom bracket swaying from side to side underneath me.

Also, the saddle sucks, I thought the stock drops were too wide, and I've never even heard of the headest manufacturer (Chinhaur), which uses half cartride/cup-and-cone bearings on The Hour's headset.

But again, I'm being fairly critical of this bike. If you're just getting into fixed riding and aren't looking for a great setup it's a good deal for a fully-built.

It'd just be an around town beater. That said, I should just wait for a good used find and convert it.

Come to think of it, it does feel significantly flimsier than the KHS. Agreed on that one.

No way! I love budget beaters. Next in line, I'm getting a Redline 925. I think something is wrong with me.
