Any big boys using powergrips?
I recently got a set of powergrips for my bfssfg iro and went for my first ride with them yesterday. First impression: awesomeness. I executed my first couple of skids thanks to them. Second impression: I'm feel like I may break them.
I weigh around 205 - any of you heavier guys like me been using powergrips for long enough to know if they're safe for us bigguns? I did a forum search and see that sticks like Shants nearly makes love to his powergrips, but I got a good 60 lbs on him. |
I broke mine at 130 lbs. The bolts that come with them just gave out. I retapped them and mounted new screws, and they're fine now.

yeah, i really love powergrips, but i will readily admit that the hardware leaves something to be desired. my general impression is that, more than weight, shoe size will determine how quickly you'll slaughter them. the more your foot hangs over the side of the pedal, the more stress you'll put on that protruding metal piece.
another thing to mention which i've noticed a lot since i've done more clipless riding, is that pedal strike happens sooner with the powergrips than traditional retention systems because of that same metal hardware. definitely check frequently to make sure that the stramp clamp is tight periodically and you'll be fine. |
i love my powergrips @ 175lbs

so... shants the powergrips man is switching over to clipless eh?
|
i couldn;t get mine to work. i torqued down the screw on the cleat and the head broke off. the woman at the company told me not to screw them down so hard and the next ones wouldn't hold my feet in. couldn't win, so i went back to clips.

95kg+ and when I used to use them never broke the strap - I didn't have original screws so can't comment on those though

i'm 6'2" and 260lbs. and riding- 42/13 (85 inches), never have any problems with breaking or slipping.
there are two powergrip models... one has a friction clamp and the other actually thru-bolts the strap. i'm using the clamps and still no problems. shants is right about the pedal strike. even with 165's. i scrap all the time. |
