Singlespeed & Fixed Gear "I still feel that variable gears are only for people over forty-five. Isn't it better to triumph by the strength of your muscles than by the artifice of a derailer? Another stolen bike in Philly

Ok, it's not my fixed gear...but yesterday at around 3pm my Raleigh 700 was stolen from around 10th and Lombard.

It's an orangey colored 21 speed, all aluminum spd shifters the whole nine ya know. Heres a pic.

EDIT one good way to spot this is the ghetto ass wiring of the computer...it's all taped on. So look for the tape and or residue.

Good luck with the rescue, I'll keep an eye out. just out of curiosity, how was it locked up?

tell the NYC kids to keep an eye out too. I've heard that most of our stolen bikes wind up there...

Just to point out, I think hazy asked this question because if your lock was a Kryptonite, you might be able to get some money out of them for a stolen bike if you can prove that someone stole the bike by breaking one of their locks.

Anyway, I'm going to go back to not posting for a year or two. Good luck!

the kryptonite insurance stuff is really kind of a myth. you need to send them a receipt for the lock and a receipt for your bike within a week of the purchase of the lock (i believe). that's all well and good if you've got your stuff together and you bought your bike complete from a bike store and kept the receipt, but if all the parts are from ebay, craigslist, LBS, and trades, then theoretically you would need a receipt for each component. plus, you need to send them part of the broken lock. so, even if a thief breaks the lock, he needs to leave part of it behind. if it was stolen some way other than breaking the lock (like breaking the thing it's locked to), you're out of luck again.

has anyone ever gotten money back from kryptonite? does anyone know anyone that has?

There was nothing left, I thought I was dumb and forgot where my bike was. After a half hour of searching I realized it was gone. Looks like it disappeared everyone I know is just as baffled as I am.

Hi all, I dont post to often as I cant afford a really nice fixie yet so I dont "feel Right", but hopefully will soon Ive yet to see a bike with a Krytonite lock on it stolen!? Im sure its happened, just that Ive never seen it happen? I think that if it was that easy you wouldnt see all those stripped frames locked to unmovable objects from people who have lost their Krypto keys!? Maybe his lock wasnt a Krypto lock?
