My scraper bike

I finally built my scraper bike! It rocks!

My scraper bike go hard, I don't need no car!

If you don't know what a scraper bike is, look here.

Well, jokes aside, when I first watched that video I though that it'd be kinda cool to have such bike, even if only for the sake of getting lots of attention. Of course, I'm sane enough to not spend any money on such a ******** idea. So, here's the deal. I had this mamachari (a Japanese cruiser). Here's how it looked when it was new. I still used it as a beater, but it's really a stupid and ugly bike, so I decided to have a bit of fun with it. Now it's a real scraper bike! I still have to tape the rear wheel's spokes and maybe add something else, like a rear basket. I flipped the cruiser bars upside-down so they now resemble track bars....in a way. The leverage is really ****ty though, the control is good only in 'drops'. The front wheel looks totally bad ass though, but the bike starts to swerve like crazy with side wind. And it's REALLY windy in Japan now. But anyway, it's a cruiser, so I can't ride it really fast on it, so it's not dangerous. And when I turn on the front light at night, the wheel looks really cool as the tape in spokes gets lit up.

This thing is totally great for a beater, it's fun to ride, you get attention with it. And what's more NOBODY WILL EVER STEAL THE DAMN THING. Well, 'cause it might be the ugliest bike in the world, lol.

Now go dance in an intersection.
Unfortunately Tokyo doesnt have any ghetto like Oakland does so youll just get hit by a taxi and the party'll end.

my thoughts too. no offence to OP, but if that's you in the thumbnails (i.e. not japanese) and you're in tokyo and you need *more* attention, then you must be hiding yourself really really well.

Did you use tape, like colored packing tape, for what you put on your front wheel in the spokes? If so, wont it get really dirty, including the inside where it is sticky and not stuck to anything? What other materials could be used for that?

My Japanese mother-in-law has the exact same bike (non-scraper version). When we visit Niigata every summer, I love bombing around the neighborhood on that thing. Niigata is not Tokyo and the sight of a 6'2" geijin flying through town on a mamachari gets plenty of attention.
