can someone explain this to me (re: dickie pants)

they give you a little side pocket for such use as with a phone or an mp3 player, and at the top of the pedal stroke this pocket is clearly facing downward toward the asphalt

thousands of revolutions later, the contents of said pocket are still secure

can someone please resurrect sir isaac newton

I couldn't answer that but I have had the same experience. Back in my high school days, I'd where dickies (cell phone pocket+extra knee layer) to class everyday, my stuff never fell outta my pockets even if I had that pocket go upside-down. I guess...it just works?

The opening of the pocket becomes stretched and tight against the leg, as does the rest of the cotton, thus items in said pocket are pulled towards leg.

Well, you are riding fixed I assume. So as they say "An object in motion will stay in motion..." the force of the phone pushing deeper in the pocket (gravity) will continue to keep the phone in the pocket as your leg makes the pedal rotation.

I haven't thought of that, scott77. In the years following high school, I started wearing slacks for work...now that I think of it...dickies can come in really handy when I have to do kneeling-intensive work. It beats wearing knee pads over slacks.

I may just go pick some up.

Phone or MP3 pocket? Excuse my ignorance, I haven't lived in the States for many years, but when did Dickies go from cheap work pants that you buy at K-Mart or Sears to fashion pants?

BTW, it's a tool pocket......

Not anymore. It's now advertised as a cell-phone pocket or a multi-use pocket, though I couldn't tell the difference between the two by looking.

They changed their pants.
I wore them when I worked construction, then they became cool to wear. No correlation.

Dickies and other work clothes are suddenly popular and trendy. Apparantely its cool to look like you working (a real job) even though your not. Its a bandwagon just like the fixie/gotta look like a messenger with a messenger bag trend thats going on right now. The ME ME ME ME ME ME generation will find something new and shiny to soothe their short attention spans and ADHD in a few months.

Maybe then the spoiled basta*ds will get the hell off my lawn.

They ride all over it with their fixed-gear bikes and tool-pockets, spilling their cell-phones and mp3 players everywhere. And their shouting makes it hard for me to hear the gramophone!

They've been fashionable with certain sets for a long time. I've noticed they've been marketing to non-blue collar workers lately, which will probably hurt them in the long run.

I hate all new dickies since they changed the style to be more modern. The old style was the best and now I can only find them online and have to order them when I need a new pair. Kinda a pain in the ass, but I know my size so it only really sucks to have to wait for them to come in. I consider the new dickies to be like "new coke" when the originally formula always has been and always will be the jam.

They still sell both versions here.
I'm not into the 'loose fit' of the double knee version.. and I don't like the high waist of either really.

That being said, I wore Dickies to a wedding on Saturday.
