Another velocity wheel thread
I'm looking for a wheel for the IRO SE. I initially thought a velocity aerohead would be fine, but I am a little concerned about its sturdiness. I'm 5'9" and weigh 185 lbs. I will use the bike maily for commuting pea gravel rails to trails. Will the aerohead fit my needs or should I look at the Aero or fusion?
|
Deep-V is the standard, but nearly everybody has them (good and bad)... I totally would've gone with the Fusion rims if they came in the same funky colors as the Deep-V though. :)
However, if the rim is built properly, the Aeroheads should be fine really. |
Bah- aerohead was the standard for road riders. There is nothing wrong with them--- they are a fine rim.
|
I've beat on my aeroheads for over a year dropping curbs, riding plenty of dirt trails, and even a few rocky trails. I weigh about 190 and I have never even thought about truing the rims although the front is out of true by maybe 1mm laterally but other than that they have held up very well

Thanks for the input--i decided to go with aeros

You don't need Deep Vs to make a bomb proof wheel. Aeroheads are better than fine, they're grrrrreat!
|
deep v's are really only aesthetically better IMO [and arguably, at that]
the aeroheads are better than good -- you'll be fine :) |
Fusion's are a nice compromise. I've learned the common advice given by this forum is pretty accurate though - it's more about who's building the wheels than anything else, go out and find one of the top wheelbuilders in your town.
