Spoke beads...

I'm thinking of putting spoke beads on my SS commuter. Do they move around and make noises, or do they stay put? I feel they'd be a good way to show that I'm not too serious about things. :D

Waddaya'll think?

peabodypride 07-31-07 01:25 PM

zomg you're like 15 years behind the trends

delicious 07-31-07 01:28 PM

the ones i had used to move around and make clicking noises

goldenskeletons 07-31-07 01:28 PM

hahahaaaaa, jack crank rides with those and they are so hilariously obnoxious...

no they will not stay put until you get up enough centrifugal force to keep them up by the nipples. otherwise they're noisy.

oh, and this is not a decision that the internet can make for you. if yer sassy enough to rock 'em, yer sassy enough to decide this one on your own.

bicycle 07-31-07 01:31 PM

I wouldn't need them because my crusty old bottom bracket makes enough click and snap noises for one bike thank you
[EDIT: especially when I go up hills, it sounds like a toy piano, and one day my cranks are going to fall of or something].

CdCf 07-31-07 01:33 PM

Trends? What trends? There are no bike trends around here.

Haha, they're cheap enough to give it a try.

spokes this week, what will next week be?

i vote MORE velocity deep v sticker patterns

mcafiero 07-31-07 02:25 PM

I wouldn't do it. Safety reasons.

seaneee 07-31-07 03:11 PM

^ would that 'safety reason' be that if you have them someone will kick your @ss because the sound they make is annoying. That is the only safety reason I can think of.

Well, that... and the fact that if you hit a bump, one could pop off and lodge into a bystander's eye. That hurts just to think about!

dmotoguy 07-31-07 03:31 PM

or your spokes could fly out and lance somebody.

Can't we have one forum where people don't talk about Lance?

i do that with rocks..

kjohnnytarr 07-31-07 09:17 PM

If I was gonna do it, I'd make my own. How rad would that be?

iamarapgod 08-01-07 12:10 AM

Do it.
Do it.
Do it.

I used to rock them. And a pop can on the front tire. And a million balloons, cards, and straws in the spokes. Loud pi..spokes save lives, right?

I've had the same 7 beads - 2 orange, 2 green, 2 blue, and 1 pink - on one of my bikes since I was about 7. Just keep putting em on my favorite bike at the moment. They have always brought me good luck - I have ever gotten hurt riding the bike they were on. My grandpa got them for me, so they also mean a lot. In the past 20 years, none of them have broke, and now I feel weird on a bike w/out them. I've grown to love the noise they make, and they seem to fit my style, too...

yup.

freeskihp 08-01-07 08:54 AM

all the cool kids these days are rocking tennis balls

chevy42083 08-01-07 09:13 AM

They made noise when I rode slow as a kid... I can only imagine that they'd be pretty freakin quiet on any bike I ride now... I just don't go slow enough that often to make noise.
Although, I think I'll get a set and put 'em on my g/f bike. :D Her bike lacks character.

SamHouston 08-01-07 11:05 AM

hmmm, I could definitely rock those but not in all those colours. Give me some chrome spoke beads for noisy bling
