you spent 35 on a gatorskin? you paid too much. they're good tires - i've had them last well upwards of a thousand miles, riding with reliance on skipping and skidding. they do get squared off but i've retired 'em before the threads show. only flatted once, some glass was deeply burried in there and finally worked its way to the tube.
