925, Rush Hour, One-Way

These are the budget buys I am considering. This is my first venture into to fixed gear world and I plan on running them fixed. If you have any of these please tell me your likes and dislikes. I don't know much about the geometry differences. I noticed the gearing is taller on the RH, but the others come with fenders and wider rubber. I can get any of the bikes for around $400.

I ride a Rush Hour, and have been overall satisfied with it. The stock gearing is a bit too high for my preference on the street, but it works great on a track. One-way geometry is identical, though the fork rides a bit different. If I had known that the O-W was in development when I got the RH, I'd have waited on account of the rack and fender mounts.

In it's current configuration with mustache bars, folks often mistake the RH for the 925.

Overall, you can't go wrong.

One Way has canti-brakes, good if going Cross is something you're thinking about.

there is a long thread on this already, entitled budget bikes or something. Plus about 50 other threads about the specific comparisons you are looking for.

Just got my 925 yesterday, it's a pretty cool bike. If you run it fixed, I'd recommend a new cog as the stock one feels very flimsy.

i just saw a specialized tricross at a store... holy hell it looks badass. it would probably be a ridiculously sick street/trail fixed gear.

cc700 08-02-07 01:34 PM

if you're gonna be a jerk, maybe you should back it up with being right...

el twe 08-02-07 01:40 PM

...and if you are gonna be all snarky, then you should be less ambiguous.

 sure, it's my fault you 'corrected' me with false information.

glad you found a picture of it though, now i don't have to post mine.

Thanks for the info everyone. I know there are a ton of threads out there in regards to these bikes, but its almost too much to read. I don't know how the specialized stuff fits into this thread, but I generally avoid all the specialized, trek, giant, big brands that everyone else already owns. I like to be someone unique.

 well you've certainly come to the right place!

sorry, i was hoping my suggestion(that even the trendsetters didn't know existed) would be useful- but i guess if being unique is a priority, you'd be better off with a trendy bike.

ajs26 08-02-07 08:29 PM

I was looking at the Sputnik also, but it was a tad out of my price range. Still seemed to be a great bike for the money though.
