SE Racing

Anyone try one of these SE Racing Draft SS's? I know it is heavy, and only a hi-ten steel frame / fork, but for only $250 for a complete bike build I wonder if still may be worth it to just have one.

I was always partial to SE bikes when I was in bmx . . .

Are you saying that I might get a good deal on one at your shop??

kitten_sandwich 08-03-07 05:27 PM

yeah, you should just spend another hundred and get the mercier or windsor.

no.

we have about 3,000 bikes at my shop, and the owner is in no hurry to get rid of any of them. it's kind of scary.
anyways, i probably wouldn't sell one, even if you begged me to. with that bike, you're better off finding an old frame (any old frame) and buying the cheapest wheels you can find.

it also has, for some reason, a flip-flop hub with threading for a freewheel on both sides.

also-
that bike weighs 27 pounds!!!
its like an entrylevel bike and a half.

bottom line,

is worst bike ever.

The bike is only $250. You can't expect much for that kind of price. As long as the frame doesn't break and the wheels turn, you get what you pay for.

not true.

I was thinking about one for my girlfriend... for about two seconds. I went with the motocane messenger. Spend a little more and you can get a much nicer bike (mercier)

It's hard to imagine a bigger piece of **** than the SE Draft. As other have said, for $50 more you can get the Windsor Hour, or spend another $100 on The Mercier Kilo TT or the Motobecane Messenger. Those bikes are all 4130 steel instead of hi-ten, and are apparently spec'ed with decent-enough components (replace as needed).

I've seen them firsthand. At Performance in Sacramento. I was told by the staff not to buy one.

Basically it's a department store bike at a bike shop price.

And besides, Ashtabula bottom brackets are always a deal breaker for me anyway.

'Racing'... ROFL!

P.S. They are only $200 at the Performance by my house.

Bought an SE Lager

I was at my LBS today and tried a SE Draft, and it sucked pretty bad, it was freaking heavy and the straight handle bars gave me cramps, however, it was only $250 so it's not that bad for the price.

I then tried the SE Lager which is cromoly and has bullhorns. I had never ridden bullhorns before and it was freaking awesome. I loved the bike as soon as I jumped on it, and took it home. It was $470 though.

I put some SE Landing Gear on my Bully. I bent the holy **** out of em.
That was 1989. :)
