Wifes repaint and conversion is complete:

I think it turned out pretty nice, and from her first ride reactions, it's exactly what she wanted.

Started as a mid 90's Gian mtb/hybrid. Frame, fork, seatpost, cranks and big chainring, and wheelset are all original. Everything else was replaced with new budget minded stuff from Pricepoint, Nashbar and the LBS. Right now it's running 42x18 and she said it feels pretty good.

Yeah I did. Rattle can automotive paint and clear coat. It's a damn good finish to my surprise.

doofo 08-06-07 07:17 PM

those are huge bazongas

brinskan 08-06-07 07:22 PM

what bars are those? My mom was complaing about the bars on her mtn bike. I think these would suit her.

exfreewheeler 08-06-07 07:24 PM

that is sweet!

well done.

Nakedjim 08-06-07 07:28 PM

It's pretty.

Only thing I'm not a fan of is the rear brake toptube mounts, but I suppose you didn't have very many options. Otherwise, wonderful work!

Ja ne!

Origin8 Tiki bars. Beware: these are 26.0 road bars, so you will have to mod mtb levers to work.

It wasn't a big deal though...and she loves the bars.

Yeah....I was limited, but I'm going to be on the lookout for something better. Maybe an uber-trendy top tube pad to cover it all. :)

WHAT**********? Nobody mentioned the QR on the drive-side??? You guys are slacking!
Now why exactly is this frowned upon?? Is it the direction of the lever?

Nice Job!! I think it looks great. SS or FG?

I honestly don't see how it would matter on the front wheel. I mean, I can understand if it were the rear, but not the front.

Oh, and it's ss.

redtires 08-06-07 07:44 PM

That is a really sexy cruiser!!!

Agreed, however some of the peanut gallery really flames for such things :D

exfreewheeler 08-06-07 07:59 PM

It's not going to when the factory paint underneath was in fine condition.

FYI: I'm not new to this. ;)

peabodypride 08-07-07 07:40 AM

cierrecart, how is the paint holding up under the skewers? On my paintjob it got so bad that I removed paint from the drops and just sealed it.

That's a nice looking ride! I have a 90's Trek SingleTrack that I can see myself giving the same treatment one day. Good Job.

Thanks. If you search for my other thread, you can see that I did the exact same thing with a 95 Trek 830. It turned out awesome.

What brand of paint/clear/primer? I might be interested in re-doing mine next summer. Sparkly dark blue isn't my color.

Both bought from pep Boys and both are made by duplicolor. The clear however is made specifically for use over their alloy wheel paint. Turns out it works great on bikes too. :)

Bushman 08-07-07 04:50 PM
