Singlespeed & Fixed Gear "I still feel that variable gears are only for people over forty-five. Isn't it better to triumph by the strength of your muscles than by the artifice of a derailer? We are getting soft...As for me, give me a fixed gear!"-- Henri Desgrange (31 January 1865 - 16 August 1940)

Wright Brothers and Free Range.

Oh, and I'm sure Aaron's knows what's up but I have no personal experience.

http://www.perfectwheels.net/

Can be expensive, but the shop specializes in wheel building. You get a 3 year warranty.

I know a couple of guys who swear by montlake.

wright brothers teaches classes and for a one-time fee you can join the "co-op" and use their tools there anytime, and I'm sure charles can build a good wheel but i can't personally attest.

same probably goes for aaron in west seattle.

recycled cycles claims to have some pretty competent wheel builders and guarantees and such to back it up.

I build all my own or i'd have a better recomendation.

i second the arrons recommendation, though i too have no personal exp. the info provided in the below link seems pretty reasonable with A LOT of peace of mind:

"Our Master Mechanics each have over 13 years experience building wheels. (Aaron has 21 years) When we build you a wheel it is Guaranteed for Life!
No hassels: just straight, true & strong wheels every time.
And FREE TRUING FOREVER, even if you crash, or break a spoke!

All this for only $60 !"

Counterbalance bikes as well, on the bottom of queen anne can get you right with a track wheelset. Recycled cycles as well can get the job done.

You could always see if Alex can cut you a deal at 2020. At least you know he does good work.
